InterContinental Kuala Lumpur, Ampang

I have stayed at several hotels in Kuala Lumpur and found this to be the poorest, especially for a 5-star (others include the Crowne Plaza and Radisson). Rooms were on the smallish side, carpets were stained and worn, rooms were not clean to the standard you would expect. Prices were on the high side compared to other hotels in KL--dinner at the Japanese restaurant was close to U$40. I stayed here to attend a conference--the meeting space was much nicer and service here was very good. Location is about 1 km from Pedronas Towers and beside the subway (Ampang Park station).

The hotel was OK (5 star) but the service need improvment. The change my reseved rooms because of miss communication as explained by the manager. The room service also takes more than an houre to delver the club sandwitch because of the miss communication also. If can find another 5 star hotel do not stay at Nikko.

I liked the lobby, I disliked the buffet, I liked the comfy beds and friendly staff, I disliked the free shampoos and soap they gave us. Overall, good hotel but nothing special.

We didn't think much of Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur when we first entered. It looks just like any other office building around it. We were even more surprised to find out that it is a 5 star business hotel. Not to be judgmental and all but first impressions do count you know. We so happened to got stuck with Nikko because our first choice Mandarin was fully booked. The thing is...Nikko and Mandarin are both situated close to each other, they’re practically neighbors. And their rooms are selling at almost the same rate. So we thought, what makes this place so special to be more or less the same as the extravagant and lavishly designed Mandarin? You just have to spend some time in Nikko to actually know what it’s all about. I’ve never thought that an office-like hotel with a plain looking lobby is actually such a wonderful personalized service hotel. I must say, staying at their Executive rooms plus making full use of the benefits that includes really pays off well. Such excellent service! And their Japanese and Chinese Restaurants, Benkay and Toh Lee, respectively are both scrumptious. They have this All-You-Can-Eat set for Fridays to Sundays for an affordable price. Kudos to the Director of Food & Beverage and Executive Chef! Nikko truly defines inner beauty. We will certainly see more of Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur in the future. Guess we’ve changed our top list now... (This review is done by referring to an extended stay at an executive room.)

I have been here for many times and by far it is the 5 star hotel that I have spent the most number of nights with. The best attribute about this hotel is its location. It is sandwitched between Ampang Park LRT Station and the Citibank Tower, in the business area of KL and also within walking distance to KLCC. The KLCC park is a mere 2 minutes walk behind the hotel. I always enjoy walking from the hotel to KLCC. The hotel has this grandeur atmosphere. Very huge lobby with very helpful staff. Some of them, especially at the reception are Japanese (being a Nikko hotel brand) and they are extremely polite and can conversate fluently in English. The hotel has about 30 floors, so the higher your room, the better the view that you are going to get. And based on my experience, the smoking room has better interior than the non-smoking room. The hotel is also generous enough to put some extras in their rooms being the most recognisable is the stepper (a tiny, walking/stair climbing exercise machine) in every room. My only dissatisfaction about this hotel is that although it boosts 5 dining outlets, none of them can be regards as outstanding and they are, some more, pricey. In addition, for most Malaysian, the room rate for this hotel is also in the "very high" category. But I guess, it is worth every cent for the services that they are provided. I would love if the Nikko Hotel brand to be included as partner in the Malaysia Airlines Enrich FFP. Maybe it's something for the management to consider.
