Stay someplace else
My husband and I stayed at the Inn at Grand Lake for one night in the middle of summer. For starters, the hotel website pictures the "queen" room beside a picture of their wrap-around balcony. In reality, the queen rooms have views of a parking lot behind the building which is shared with several other businesses, including shops and a "saloon." Being summer, we had to keep our window open at night (no air conditioning near the mountains), and were woken up at least once every hour by an assortment of noises, including car horns honking, talking/yelling, and beer bottles being thrown into a dumpter. In addition, the "recently remodeled" rooms included an incredibly lumpy/old mattress, a room whose floor sloped severely from the outside wall toward the door, hot water that required at least 5 minutes warm-up time, and absolutely no place to store toiletries in the bathroom. I have stayed in rough accomodations in the past, but was never charged $130 a night to do so.
When we shared our concerns with the night manager, rather than ask us for more information or try to remediate the situation, she immediately looked through our information to determine where we were from and stated the name of the city/town out loud, as if insinuating that we were either used to 5 star hotels or don't travel enough to know how much hotel rooms should cost - I have no idea, but we were both incredibly insulted. She told us that she would share our concerns with the owner, but we have heard nothing from him and really don't expect to. I have never written a negative review of a hotel and have traveled quite a bit - this was truly the worst hotel experience I've ever had. My advice - if you plan to visit Grand Lake, Colorado, stay someplace else. Don't waste your time or money on the Inn at Grand Lake.
