We have been going to Marathon for a couple years. We used Dolphin vacations every time. We have good experiances every time. Mary is a delight to work with. We go back for many years to come. Thank you.
Recently, 4 brothers and spouses decided on a 3 to 4 night mini-vacation in the Keys. A hotel wasn't quite what we wanted so we rented a 4 bedroom house in Marathon from Dolphin Vacations. A weekly rental, the minimum time period, was still competitively priced. It worked out quite well. We especially enjoyed the large deck overlooking the pool and the Atlantic, our gathering spot for morning coffee and pre- or post-dinner drinks and conversation.
We, too, dealt with Mary and found her to be quite helpful. The house did have a few annoyances and minor maintenance issues (a bad shower head in 1 bath and a running toilet in another), but nothing serious and Mary did arrange the repairs as soon as she was informed.
I have 2 suggestions, 1 for Dolphin and 1 for prospective renters. For Dolphin: Please consider a check out / comment sheet so renters can inform you of maintenance needs. Clearly you cannot correct a problem if you do not know there is a problem. All properties, but especially short term rentals, will need periodic maintenance. For Prospective Renters: Ask a lot of questions and let your agent know what you want. Clearly there are a variety of properties, ranging from quite nice to perhaps not so nice. You'll notice the ratings are at the extremes, probably depending on the specific property rented.
We will rent from Dolphin again. After talking to Mary about other properties, I now know we can match our needs even better. Next time we may get a place with a boat ramp or dock, options I wasn't aware of.
The house we rented was not only in a beautiful location but was very clean as well.
Everything Mary (From Dolphin Vacations) told us was true to her word the home and the place was amazing we had
a great time staying there.
We have vacationed in Marathon for years and never had a problem with a house rental until now. If you rent from this broker you are insane. The house was filthy. The owner should be ashamed of himself. You have been warned...
I did not read the reviews prior to taking our vacation, and I'm glad because our vacation was wonderful. Our family had always vacationed in Texas on the coast, and decided this year to go somewhere different. We have always wanted to try Florida, but didn't know where to go or who to call. After two months of research I came across Dolphin Vacations, and called and spoke with Mary. Mary from the beginning was very helpful and personable we talked several times before I booked our condo. Mary gave me a website for coupons for all sorts of things to do up and down the Keys. She explained everything to do in Marathon, and went into great detail of the property so I could picture exactly what it looked like. The price was reasonable, and it was exactly what she said it would be. We spent a day in Key West snorkeling and hanging out. That's what was nice the other islands are close to go spend the day, you can travel up and down the Keys. The condo was clean, and sits next to the ocean, and also has the pool. We met a wonderful couple that lived on the property and their daughter was visiting from Colorado where were from and they just love visiting there. Thanks Mary I would definetly recommend Dolphin Vacations and look forward to our visit next year.
My new bride and I had the time of our lives. Everyone was very friendly and the grounds were kept in tip top shape. Walking to our unit, we noticed the attention to detail and once inside our unit we found it to be larger than expected but similar to the web page. We stayed in the two bedroom. It was very clean and had everything we needed for our weeklong stay. The pool was right out of the webpage and sat beautifully next to the ocean. Access to the ocean was very easy as well. Downside, I find Marathon to be a little more geared towards older folks or at least those who aren't excited about a crazy nightlife. We had to drive for that but because it is a central key, it made getting to and from Largo and West extremely easy. Met the groundskeeper and office staff on day one and found them to be about as friendly as one could hope for. Also, the place seemed very secure with the groundskeeper keeping an eye out on our parking lot and keeping mindful of strange cars etc. The area is virtually crime free based on my research but it's nice to have that extra set of eyes just in case. We had the time of our lifes and plan on making this our regular reunion spot considering the affordable pricing and strong hospitality. Everything one needs is within a very short drive and the scenery and access to the ocean are unmatched. Loved our stay!
The people were terrible, the so called "new"home we rented was disgusting inside. Dead bugs on the wall, filfth on the ceilings and all over, stains on the carpet. Not to mention the hundreds of huge ants that were crawling in our bed, in our suitcases, and all over our personal items. The people were rude and nasty. DO NOT GO HERE! They mislead you to believe it is great place to stay, it is dirty, bug infested, and the people are the worst I have ever dealt with.
I's hard to say, since they never got back to me. I called and asked about renting a home for November 17 -24 2007. I asked if we could extend for a few days and leave on the 26th. The lady told me she would check with the owners and get back to me. I said don't you want my phone number and she said oh, yes
That was on Saturday. On Wednesday when I hadn't heard from them, I called and she said that she was checking with the owner about our request to extend our stay and hadn't heard back from them. It has been well over a month and no response. We've made other vacation plans.
BEWARE OF DOLPHIN VACATIONS!!!!!! My husband and I rented from Dolphin Vacations for our honeymoon in January 2005. They were absolutely awful to us. We rented a house in Marathon. When we arrived, there was a pair of mens underwear hanging in the tree in front of the house and a work truck in the driveway. The house was supposed to be open for us; it was not. We went around to the backyard and discovered towels by the pool. It looked as though someone was staying there. We entered the house through the back patio door only to discover it was filthy. To make a long story short, no one had come to clean the house since the last renters (almost a week before our arrival). When we called to find out what was happening, Mary was VERY unhelpful. She knew it was our honeymoon and was not at all accomodating. She sent a cleaning woman who made the bed using the same dirty linens!!! There was no way we were spending our honeymoon there. When I told her they were ruining our vacation, Mary's response was to go to dinner and everything would be worked out - she did not assure me that they would take care of the problem. She suggested we go to dinner and yet at this point, my husband and I had no place to stay on the first day of our honeymoon. I would like to add that when we complained they would avoid my concern-they even said they could not understand why we were so upset. Mary eventually decided she could give us a condo, which is not what we had wanted at all. We made our plans months in advanced and stressed how we wanted privacy and our own house. When we complained to the local police, even they told us they have received many complaints about Dolphin Vacation rentals. All I have to say is BEWARE. When I filed a complaint with the BBB, the company sent a response that did not even pertain to our situation. They obviously get so many complaints that they cannot keep them straight. Anyone interested in more info, feel free to ask. (I have pictures and a BBB report). I would never recommend them and from what we were told by the local police and District Atty, you are taking your chances renting with them.
