Kahaluu Bay Villas, Kailua Kona

We loved staying in the Kahaluu Bay Villas. The apartments were spacious and had well-equipped kitchens (a big money-saver in Hawaii). They had a nice view of the ocean and a clean pool with a BBQ. The parking was underground,so your car wasn't too hot. The keyed entry to the elevator and villas made us feel very safe. It was an easy drive to Kona or the Place of Refuge. Kahaluu Bay is protected by a breakwater making the aquarium-like snorkeling very easy. The part not protected by the breakwater is a surf or boogie board wave. We loved seeing the turtles swimming in the water or napping on the rocks. It is not a white-sand beach, but it is shady and convenient for all sorts of playing. There are rentals for boogie boards and a shave-ice/hotdog stand on the beach, as well as changing rooms and showers.
