20 reviews for Arena Hotel, San Jose
nice adequate hotel
By r, 06/10/09
this was a good place for the price. It was easy to get to from the airport. It's a cute quiet quaint place. I dunno why folks thought traffic was noisy, the street quieted down by night and we were right in front of the street. Breakfast was fine, dinner was adequate (we were served Chinese food and typical soup and salad the night we were there). Dislikes: the bathroom sink drains slowly (but bathtub was fine), ancient noisy AC(we had to turnit off, thankful for cool climate anyway, no soda machines, noisy! bathroom ventilation Likes: adequate cable channels, microwave AND stove (but was concerned bout dangers with stoves in hotels), mini-fridge, free cookies, dinner and breakfast, small 89 room hotel with littlefoot traffic, CVS pharmacy is right next door to walk thru, plus laundrymat onsite (however, its 4 bucks for wash/dry)

"Not like it use to be"
By Wendy, 07/07/08
I use to stay at the Arena Hotel a lot when I was commuting. I loved the hotel for the service and price was excellent. My friend was getting married so I got them a room and one for me also. The room did not meet my expectations, for it was not that clean. Their room was missing a lot of things. The service was not responsive in a timely manner. I will not recomend this place to anyone else.

Great Value & Convenient
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/16/08
My wife & I stayed overnight after attending the Barry Manilow Concert on 2-15-08. The hotel is only a short 2-block walk (5 minutes max) from the HP Pavilion - it beats paying for parking and fighting the traffic afterwards. The hotel was very clean & neat, and there was adequate parking (had an overflow back lot). The hotel was in the process of installing new carpeting. Our room was very large & quiet (king jacuzzi room). The only negative was that the bed was somewhat soft, and will need to be replaced in the not-to-distant future. The breakfast (served buffet-style) was excellent. We would definitely stay here again - great value for the money.

Ver-r-r-r-y nice for the price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/02/07
Staff was friendly and helpful and room (#104) was HUGE with a jacuzzi tub. Room rate included free hot breakfast and dinner at hotel's buffet--breakfast was nothing special but perfectly adequate and I did not eat dinner there. Location is not downtown but there is public transit at the front door and a lot of shops in the area.

Two-Star Price Four-Star feel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/19/06
The arena hotel was a wonderful surprise. We drove up from LA looking for just a basic hotel/motel t stay in while we toured the Winchester House and the Mystery Spot. We arrived around 5:30 am the morning of the one night we had booked. There were no room available when we asked but we were invited to have breakfast. Where I was about to take a nap in the car in the parking lot my companion decided to pay for any room that was available. The hotel clerk gracefully upgraded us (without a charge). The decore was like walking into a four-start hotel mirrors everywhere but tastefully done. Wide stairs leading up to the sencond floor. The buffet breakfast room was HUGE the food was plenty and tastefully layedout. What I could not believe was they also was offering doing our stay a FREE dinner buffet. My goodness! Go for the room, not the food
By x x, 09/05/06
I was a bit apprehensive about checking into a place in such a busy area, but that turned out to be not much of a concern. The staff was friendly and courteous, and checking in went very smoothly, with no glitches. The grounds are well-decorated and give a homey feeling. Parking is more than adequate for the area. The room was very clean and nice, with comfortable beds. The jacuzzi/bathroom smelled a bit pungent, but was fine after I left the door open to air it out for a half hour, and was lovely to partake. Don't be enticed by the free meals though. They reminded me of what they served me in school cafeterias when I was a kid: tasteless, thin fried burgers, some celery and carrot sticks, canned fruit, and jello. Breakfast wasn't much better, it was all high-fat, high-carb, mostly sugary stuff. The pancakes and French toast were obviously the pre-made frozen kind, the eggs were not heated very well, and the biscuits were overbaked. Syrup was in little packets that ran out about 2/3 of the way through the serving time, and they did not re-stock when I asked. Drinks were limited to juices from the machine, coffee, tea, and warmish water from the tap (no ice is provided). In all, about two steps below the quality of most fast food places. This is a great place to stay and relax for a whirlpool bath by yourself or with a loved one, but bring your own food (fridge, freezer, and microwave are included in rooms) or be prepared to eat out, as you do at most hotels.

nice rooms terribly service
By Tim, 07/25/06
I spent two weeks here. It is close to the downtown area. I got a good price on the two weeks but would not pay the going price. Taking a showing the morning the shower would be extremely hot then extremely cold, every morning. I am having a dispute and I called in gave them my cell number. They must have it block, now they wont answer the phone. Good advise , stay somewhere else!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the price we paid, we will recommend to anyone
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/07/06
For the price we paid ($75 including tax) - given that it is during the July 4th long weekend - this place is a very pleasant surprise. With just about the same price we stayed at an Econo Lodge the previous night, with the average economy motel setting that you would expect. And then there was this one, with pillow-top king-size bed, all possible appliances you would have wanted in the kitchen ( include a stove ), twice the size as the previous room, and Jacuzzi for 2, it just feels like a steal. I would say for many of the $100+ hotels I've stayed they are not better than this. The breakfast is more than the average continental breakfast as well. Given the previous reviews, I guess the only trick is that ask for a room that is not so close to the laundry room. :))
