Center Inn, Sioux Falls

While this certainly isn't the fanciest motel in Sioux Falls, it fills a vital niche... close to Avera McKennan Hospital. I stayed in the motel twice... both times in excess of 7 weeks.... and.. I can honestly say the staff was very helpful and courteous at a very difficult time in our lives. My husband was in intensive care for more than a month each time he was at McKennan... and.. the Center Inn provided a closeby respite for me...a comfortable place to take a quick nap. There is no pool/whirlpool/sauna..or other entertainment type amenities.. besides tv... but.. the staff will provide a microwave and refrigerator on request. When my husband went into cardiac arrest at 3 a.m., the staff was extremely helpful..they took the call promptly.. they called hospital security before I even asked...who got me to the only open door in no time flat.. and really made sure I got to where I needed to be. The overnight desk clerk was wonderful and qukck thinking in a crisis situation. they provide a continental breakfast of sorts == juice, coffee and rolls..., although the hospital cafeteria is close by and serves excellent food. Their chef trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. You can reach the hospital by nearby covered walk from the hospital parking garage where the parking is still free . The only negative occurred one night when a group of motor cycle riders checked in... apparently all the other motels in Sioux Falls were full... and.. they were pretty rowdy... not much appreciated by the people who had loved ones in serious condition at the hospital....and.. who were trying to get some rest... Also... depending on the wind... the CareFlight Helicopter sometimes flies right over the Center Inn when it is taking off and landing... the first time it happened it sort of freaked me out... but.. I would not say it was a major annoyance. Also.. the motel gives special rates for stays longer than 30 days... And.. if you need a place close to the hospital.. the location is great!
