Description

The Farnsworth House Inn is a Victorian bed and breakfast that offers gracious accommodations and maybe even a little scare. Some people believe that a ghostly visitor still walks the halls at night. A fine dining restaurant that serves period fare, bookstore, and a tavern where keepers are well versed in the language of the Civil War and enjoy discussing it at length are available. The Mourning Theatre also presents dramatic ghost stories. A full country breakfast is served each morning.

never again

Went for the Paranormal Experience." Try and imagine a huge waste of time and money ($50/person). The whole thing was totally disorganized and just plain silly. Maybe hardcore ghost hunters require the ambiance to be filthy and smelly, and these were the rented rooms, but that leaves me out.

fantastic!!
By ,
we didn't stay there, only ate there, and took the tours. it was wonderful! the food is always delicious, beautifully prepared and presented and we've always been well looked after by the waitstaff. darlene is amazing!! i came to her with a special request, and it was not only fulfilled, but she went that extra step to make things perfect!!! i don't know what the naysayers are complaining about... as i said, i didn't stay at the inn, but many of the complaints seem to center on the dining area as well, and i didn't see any evidence of problems (and i'm a picky person, who complains when necessary, but also who complements as necessary, too) i did see some ghostly activity... in the ladies room, of all places!! had giggles over it for the rest of the evening!!

Should have listened to the reviews! Truly awful!!
By ,
Check-in was slow, and yes we were ignored just like the other reviewers stated. We weren't advised of the BROKEN AC, and in mid-June the heat & humidity were AWFUL!!! I became sick the next day. We were told we could move if we wanted to, although by the time we were able to check-in (after 3:30 pm), we couldn't find another room available at the Hilton Garden Inn. The room was tiny; with no where to sit other than on the bed. There were two crude wooden slat chairs to sit on, but one was only large enough for a small child. No ghost activity. We paid $145 for this??? Stupid! Just plain stupid! Take a tour there, if you don't mind hokey--real ghost hunters have more respect for the dead. They might fool you once, but never twice! I asked for compensation for the broken AC, but was told only 'they're sorry!'. No--I'm sorry for paying for such a bad experience. Beware--the reviews are true as can be. I only wished I had listened. If you don't mind staying in a sauna room in mid summer, the ambiance of the Custer Room is pretty cool. You can't eat nor drink anything in the room (including water), so be aware of that! They did have free parking. We moved to the Hilton Garden Inn and the AC worked heavenly!

A Total Freak Show!
By ,
What could be a delightful experience has been made a nightmare by rude, arrogant, unprofessional and incompetent management and staff. THIS IS NOT A B&B by any stretch of the imagination! Check in was a hassle, we were ignored, too busy answering the phone & gossiping with co-workers. When we finally got to our room, it smelled really bad, like a combo of mold and sewer. They blame everything on the ghosts, the dripping shower, the bad odors, no soap, toilet tissue, ratty towels, lumpy pillows, flickering electric, no bathroom door! The ghosts did it all.Maybe I should have had the ghosts pay for my stay. The breakfast part was a big joke! I have had a better breakfast in a chain hotel. I recommend that you stay elsewhere. There are a number of beautiful B&Bs in the area that are full of history. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and reporting them.

Just Say No!
By ,
Farnsworth House is the biggest sham in Gettysburg. They are rude, overpriced and the rooms are filthy! They are so wrapped up in their ghost nonsense that they have forgotten about customer service. Check in was a nightmare, we were ignored, selling their ghost tour tickets was more important. The room was gross, moldy, dirty & smelly! No bathroom door , wobbly tub.Had to beg for toilet paper, soap & towels. Next was the breakfast. I have had better and fresher in the lobby of a Holiday Inn. Frozen Waffles with frozen strawberry stuff. No fresh fruit. The rudeness of "Darleen" and the slob stoned out waitress were enough to keep me from coming back. The grounds and building are lovely, too bad it's nothing but a freak show! Do not waste your time or money. This is NOT a real B & B.

Im done with the Farnsworth!
By ,
If you ever intend to actually enjoy the B&B side of the Farnsworth dont go until they get new management. Since they can pull people because of all the paranormal activity they more than half step on customer service/hospitality. The rooms are DIRTY, pillows smelled like mold, dust on the base boards and trim, rugs were dusty/dirty. The breakfast was meager with cold to warm coffee. They made you feel as if they were just waiting for you to finish so you wouldn't bother them. Tthe people working there ranged from nice-to rude-to indifferent. They have a loud chime clock in the hallway that sounds off every 15 minutes. Good luck getting some good sleep!;) When we went to check in the lady at the counter was taking a call from her husband. She was talking about something totally mundane. She never even acknowledged us standing infront of her and then she stood up and turned her back on us and ignored us for about 5-7 minutes while she conversed about much of nothing. We really don't ask for much and take no pleasure in complaining. My wife and I have been there 6 x in the last 5 years and have seen it decline. This past November was the last straw. Its a shame because it really is a great place and location but the management is horrible.

Shocked and dissapointed!
By ,
Myself and 3 friends planned a girls getaway weekend Aug. 2009 since I stayed at the Farnsworth many times before I had suggested it for our stay that weekend. I booked 2 rooms in January having email conformation on both(which I showed them). When we arrived in Aug to our shock and dismay they only had one room available. We asked them for a manager to try and help rectify the situation, the woman at the front desk refused! I asked for a refund for my deposit and we would look for acomodations elsewhere and she had the nerve to ask me if I wanted a refund on both rooms DUH!!??!! We NEVER recieved an appology from this woman for our trouble or help finding another place to stay.Thankfully we found another B&B to accomodate us and welcomed us with open arms. I would be very reluctant to stay there again. At least not with out calling at least a week ahaed of time to make sure I have a room/rooms to stay in.

Service bad, food okay, basement ghost tour great
By ,
My husband and I go yearly to Gettysburg. We were disappointed in the service while eating in the tavern and the food was just okay. The best part of the Farnsworth is the ghost tour. Thanks to our guide we were very pleased and can't wait to take another tour next year.

Loved it.
By ,
The Farnsworth House ghost tour totally rocked! It was fun, and educational. Even my children ages 9, 11, and 15 loved it. Allie our tour guide was absoltuely fablous! She sung a song towards the end, and what an amazing voice. We've gone on other ghost tours while in town and where greatly disappointed and bored while on them. It's worth to go for a day visit and visit the Farnsworth House, you won't be disappointed. out of 5 stars the Farnsworth house rates a 10 star! You won't be disappointed!
