Pretty location, poor management

We arrived at this hotel after a long flight from Australia. It has a pretty location and plenty of character and was situated between a pedestrian precinct of Thames Street and the River Thames. However it is not convenient to Heathrow Airport, being 12 miles away. We were lucky to have arranged a lift by private car. There are no train or bus services nearby. Parking is difficult.
The hotel is well located for those who want to visit Windsor Castle or Eton College. Both are within 10 minutes walking distance.
The foyer is very small and inadequate and check-in was slow but polite. We booked through Laterooms and did not get the twin executive room we'd reserved and paid for. This was not the hotel's fault. The standard room however was very clean and well furnished with a good bathroom, air conditioning, tea making facilities and comfortable beds.
The English breakfast which we paid 14 pounds for was adequate although the waitress didn't know what black pudding was(even though it appeared on the menu and was meant to be included). The view from the restaurant onto the Thames was lovely but none of the staff were English so ordering wasn't easy.
We weren't impressed with the managers who failed to solve any of our problems - a late check out could not be organised, and the duty manager sighed when we told him of a leak which had appeared under the carpet in our room. He gave us a towel to mop it up but made no arrangements to fix it.
In conclusion we were disappointed in the standard of service by the management. There appeared to be no English staff and the atmosphere reminded me of a ship without a captain.
My advice to anyone staying at this hotel would be to book through a discount website. You are likely to be very disappointed if you pay the normal prices which are very high for what you get.
