Nice, but with problems.
Looking at all of the reviews already on this hotel, not much in this will be new. Just adding to the litany of people saying the same thing.
First, the views from our motel room, room 237, was AMAZING. Big Ben, Thames River, big and bold right there. Very nice! The room was clean. The room was moderate size, not bad for a London Hotel.
Second, the issues with pricing were VAST. First, we paid in advance, 4 months in advace to be clear, for a deluxe river view room. One month later we asked to change one of the nights that was prepaid for, their response was it was not refundable! 3 months in advance couldnt be changed?! THEN, when we did get there, we were told that our reservation was NOT for a river view room. I showed him the internet documentation and even though it clearly showed it he said we were undercharged for a river view room! Well, to make matters worse, we had two nights reserved and paid for and a tour that left at 7:00AM. Since we couldnt check into a new room until after noon and since we needed to have the room for two nights to leave our suitcases in we were kind of hard lined into staying two nights in a river view room, charged 30 pounds the first night for river view and 60 pounds the second night! They charge double for subsequent nights in river view!!! I heard every front desk person I saw trying to upgrade or charge more than what was negotiated or reserved from every customer I saw come in, (about 8 over course of 2 days.) Seems to me upgrade is part of the game but here it is forced upgrade.
The things we liked were the executive room, had a few nice things but it was not as nice as the Comfort Inn in Kings Cross' morning breakfast! How can a 2/3 star Comfort Inn beat out a 5 star Marriot?! It shouldnt be able to. The pool is nice, but it is definitely not much more than a "lap pool", 3 lanes.
Weight room is nice.
The building itself is historic, and the list of people who have walked the halls of this building is long and very distinguished...however, the commmercialism and lack of professionalism really has degraded what could be a magnificent hotel.
