Mercure Hotel Duesseldorf City Center, DüSSELDORF

I booked this hotel through the Accor website, choosing it purely because I was meeting a new girlfriend and I thought she might appreciate something better than my normal Ibis. The fact that the price difference was only about EUR 10/night for a last minute booking helped. ;-) Upon arrival I was allocated what looked very much to me like a junior suite. Compared to an Ibis? Wow, thank you *very* much! Only a few minutes walk from the station (or one stop on the tram if you're _really_ lazy), it's well sited, with the Altstadt bars and restaurants and the K� (Koenigsalle) shops a few minutes away on the U-bahn from the Hbf (main station). Didn't try the food or the bar, but the room was excellent and I'm staying there again on my next visit to D�ss for the same reason as last time: rooms offered for only EUR 10 or so more than the Ibis at the Hbf. Excellent! About the only bad thing I can say is that there are far too few no-smoking rooms, but that's a criticism of all hotels I've ever used in Germany!
