Disappointing Under New Ownership
By ,
Since new ownership too over the Presidente has gone down hill. The old News Cafe restaurant was remodeled into a modern looking place. Unfortunately the new menu is limited, the prices are expensive and the food was terrible. The hallway floors are tiled and the walls are hard plaster so there is nothing to absorb/dampen sound, so you can hear every person talking, luggage rolling, hotel personel working during all hour of the day. On the plus side, the rooms are spacious and clean. Hotel guest can also take care of the departure tax in the lobby.

Great Hotel
By ,
Every accomodation was great! We stayed at Hotel Balmoral (across street) on the night of our arrival and hated it, so we were lured into the Hotel Presidente by its beautiful lobby and cafe. We requested to see one of their rooms and we loved it. The rooms are all tiled & decor is very nice. It was a great experience. The price per night was only $10 more! I was laughing at the other hotel (Balmoral).

Also Disappointing, Under New management
By ,
Stayed in Hotel 4 times early 2010, Hotel and restaurant was very nice i like the location very much, Was there In march 2011 all has changed and not for the better, Employees at the front desk act as they are doing you a favor, waited 30 minutes just to pay for the room one more night when i complained why is it was taking so long they, then called the (rude) new manager over so she could handle me. breakfast was ok, But all week the food off the menu was bad, sent many dishes back and yes also over priced,, i agree with the other review it has gone down hill.

Nice Hotel Downtown....Secure and a Good Value
By ,
The hotel was recently redone and no longer caters to men looking to rent ladies and bring them to their rooms. In fact, they allow NO visitors, hence the complaints on this board. The Preseidente is clean, secure, centrally located, with nice enough rooms. The lobby restaurant is fair...the free breakfast is more than adequate. The bar is tiny and also in the lobby near registration. Rooms range from avg sized with interior window (lowest price) up to a large and nice 2 room suite, some with jacuzzi that are not terribly expensive. The suites have tiny balconies who's windows are not sound proof and you will hear the lottery barkers as early as 6 am. Location is great. By day you can walk to most sites easily, but cab it at night to be on the safe side. the downtown can be a little sketchy. The staff is very friendly and will not steer you wrong. Overall, a very nice 3.5 star hotel without the carny atmosphere of the Del Rey with a great staff and a secure facility.

Loved San Jose but will stay elsewhere on future trips
By ,
1) Very noisy all night long with the sounds of carts being rolled up and down the tiled floor hallways and street vendors hawking there wares outside your window on central ave. 2) Contrary to there claim that they have wireless internet in the rooms, it does not work and when brought to there attention they just smile and shrug there shoulders. 3) Very poor attitude from the staff in general, especially the front desk and concierge. 4) For the money that they charge there are much better places that will give better service and make you feel welcome.

Stayed June 2007
By ,
Nice clean hotel with free internet and a casino. I didn't go to the casino, but it's nearby if you want it. Breakfast was great, and the location is top notch to the central downtown area. Walking distance to the National Theater and the GOld Museum. Street vendors set up on the pedestrian mall at night. Pharmacy just across the street. Do be prepared for some of the beggars who target the tourists outside the hotel. Mini bar in the room and a fridge.

Great central place
By ,
Great Hotel with friendly staff. It's clean, affordable and hospitable. I wouldn't recommend this for families with kids. Downtown San Jose is not the place for families at night. The benefit of staying here is the proximity to many of the major sites and shopping areas. I go to CR several times a year and the Presidente is a favorite of mine.
