Best hotel in Santo Domingo
First of all, the hotel was clean, Eurpopean luxury with delicious food and excellent service. Carmin, the concierge, was the most helpful woman ever! She set us up on an historical tour of the old city with a bilingual tour guide (who spoke English to me and Spanish to my husband.) We also went to a baseball game with a taxi driver (again booked through Carmin) who met us after the game so we were not waiting outside the stadium. Every maid, waiter, service person was delightful. Pool was wonderful. View was fabulous!! Every place recommended to us to tour was safe, friendly and clean. We loved our stay at the Hostel Nicholas. I want to go back there today!! Also, there were romantic couples and older couples and families - so any size group was perfect! We loved our room - book as large as you can afford -- because the bathtub is worth the stay! Also, the winodws opened and let in a sea breeze, but if it was too hot, the AC worked perfectly. There is limited television - but who watches TV on vacation? Also, the drinks were delicious, but everything is done on Island Time, so do not be in a hurry. There were very few Americans at this Hotel, which made it perfect as the 'ugly American' has no place in Santo Domingo - it is a place of peace!! And relaxation and rum! Even without a tour guide, there are many sights within walking distance of the hotel and that are safe to go to. But, please dress up! This is a hotel with a dress code - no socks and sandals - wear your nicest clothes!!
