Grand Cayman Beach Suites, Grand Cayman

The service was very good - the staff was courteous and very helpful, especially the concierge desk in booking excursions, car rentals, making reservations and getting taxis. The kids loved the turtle farm and Stingray City (using Captain Marvin - can't say enough about it!) and we loved shopping in nearby Georgetown. The maid and turn down service was sometimes slow, but we didn't mind too much. The suite was large and clean and had plenty of room for our family of five. The bathroom was also large and had a huge soaking tub. The suite included a refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster, sink and lots of cabinets. Floor to ceiling sliding glass doors lead to a large ocean-view balcony on which we spent much time relaxing and unwinding. I had free, uninterrupted and speedy wireless internet for my laptop. Two spotless pools occupy the courtyard. The water was clean and clear and never over-chlorinated - which meant the kids enjoyed it all day. There was never a shortage of very comfortable lounge chairs. Next to the pool, there is a 24-hour access health club well-stocked with clean towels, fresh water, and headphones for the several TVs. A spa, two restaurants, two gifts shops, and Red Sail sports are on site, too. The clean white sand beach is only a few steps away. The ocean was crystal clear and a dazzling shade of turquoise green. There are three cabanas and plenty on single beach chairs. There is much foot traffic on the beach but I never felt crushed by the cruise ship tourists or guests from the many neighboring hotels and beach clubs. The location of the hotel is ideal - roughly in the center of Seven Mile Beach - a short walk to many restaurants and a grocery store (with plenty of local and fast food options), and a short taxi, bus or car ride away from local shopping and sightseeing. Our seven days flew by but we're planning on returning very soon...

My husband and I visited the Hyatt/Grand Cayman a couple of weeks ago. The hotel was immaculate with wonderful service and cleanliness. The housekeeping ladies were always very friendly and willing to accomodate in their 2/3 times visits daily. The one- bedroom suite was beautiful with new contemporary amentities, and the views were breathtaking. We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxation away from the hustle-bustle of home (just what we were looking for). If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing hotel, this is the one for you! As mostly everywhere you go out of the states, everything is very expensive. Be prepared to either bring extra spending money or visit the grocery store down the road when you arrive. (The U. S. dollar is worth 80 cents in C.I. money.) All together, this was a wonderful, memorable trip!

I booked a one bedroom suite here between Xmas and New Years and expected to pay a premium, but with the notion that this would be a five star elegant hotel experience the $975 they wanted per night was acceptable. When the cab driver dropped us off, I thought perhaps I was in the wrong place. The lobby was tiny, and no more elegant than a Motel 6. A small dried out Xmas tree was the limits of the holiday decorations. There was no identifiable concierge, no bell captain. Service at the front desk was spotty. The Jack Nichlaus golf course Britannia (only nine holes), was a joke. About as good as a municipal course here in NY. No practice range, no caddies, no service. My bags were lost at the airport, not the hotel's fault. It seems that Cayman Air only brings 80 percent of the bags in on any one flight. Our suitcases came in later that same night, but no golf bags and no fishing pole. It took me two days to learn that the fishing pole and golf clubs had also come in that same night but were stored elsewhere at the hotel. No one on the staff let us know. When I was leaving, it took five phone calls to get my golf clubs back from the golf course. I ordered a wake up call that never got made and there was no record of it the next morning. I feel that when you are being asked to pay close to $1000 per night, you should really get treated royally and this place failed miserably. I will never go to a Hyatt Hotel anywhere in the world after this experience. The pictures on the web page are very misleading. They are tight and do not show that the hotel grounds are limited and the beach is quite shallow. The maids were terrific though, our room was nice and well kept. At best, this is a $300 per night hotel. Pay any more, you may be disappointed.

The Hyatt one bedroom suite was our home away from home for six nights - and outside of the high cost of living there is no negative comment to be made as pertains to the hotel and staff. Every home amenity is provided - refrigerator, microwave, coffe pot, iron/board, sofa and two comfy chairs, a desk and internet access, TV in living room and bedroom, ample closet space. The view is spectacular - the rooftop deck viewing - especially the sunsets over the sea - is breathtaking. The hotel staff is pleasant, friendly, and helpful. I was especially impressed the the room staff, both room service and the room attendant - our always smiling attendant came by every evening to tidy up for the second time and make sure all towels were clean and dry, waste baskets emptied, and bed turned down for the night - EVEN THE BABY CRIB PREPARED FOR A GOOD NIGHT'S REST. Any of the few "complaints" we had were addressed promptly, efficiently, and with a smile. The pools are clean and cater to family - we had a toddler with us on our stay...plenty of sunning chairs (equipped with canvas tops for shade if desired) both at the pools and on the magnificent beach, just steps away. The restaurant/bar service was excellent. I was slightly disappointed with the lack of any balcony seating - I got the impression from the internet description that the suites were equipped with a deck where one could sit and relax overlooking the Sea at night or with an early morning cup of coffee. Be aware that this is not the case with the one-bedroom suites. The descriptions are misleading in that regard. Also be prepared for the hefty prices in the Caymans in general - all this wonder does come with a hefty price tag - for us it will be a once in a lifetime experience - a week in Paradise. Seems that these hotels/resorts might realize higher occupancy if the hotel/entertainment rates were more reasonable. All in all - if you can afford it - we highly recommend it!
