Heaven on Earth
By ,
For years my family and I have gone the tourist route, this year we chose something different. We had noticed on Little People Big World they took a vaction to the Abaco's in the Bahamas. We loved the water, snorkelling and walk through Hope Town they did so much we looked it up. Then when watching an Episode of Scrubs we noticed that it was filmed on Elbow Cay. That sealed the deal for us and we booked on american to Miami and the to Marsh Harbour direct. We left Buffalo at 8:05 A.M. and were feet in the sand in Marsh Harbour at 1:05 P.M. We then took a Ferry ride to Elbow Cay (20 min). Once at the Inn we just soaked up the beauty. We could not believe we were in such a place. We ahd stepped back in time put yet had all the modern conviences. Because it was near supper we went into the main dining room and had been warned that some of the food in the islands leaves a bit to be desired. The food would make the Mayor of Flavour Town proud and the staff was good and what was real nice not falling all over us. We almost felt we were truley by ourselves. The next morning we went sight seeing on Elbow Cay and I cannot begin to explain this. Vernon's General store, little shops so quaint. What is extremely nice is that in the village of Hopetwon there are no vehicles, and I think less than 20 or so cars in total on the island. We rented a golf cart but used the complimentary bicycles the the Abaco Inn supplied. The Inn arranged for us to go fishing with a guide and that was a day none of us will ever forget. Laying at the beach at tahiti beach was as nice as a day at the beach can get. We even packed a lunch and picniced. The sun rises and sunsets are breath taking and I mean that. Watching the sun go down with a nice coolie!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were a little concerned when we had read some reviews on this page put noticed that they were fro years ago and also that they seemed to be isolated. I know from owning my own company you cant please everyone and some dont even deserve the effort. But we did call and ask and the staff explained that they were under going major refurbishng. Let me explain the lighthouse. Little on this earth is the way it was years ago. The romance has been replaced by efficency, the historic replaced by modern. The Lighthouse on Elbow Cay is one of if not the last Oil fired manned lighhouses in the world. This means the Lighthouse keeper maintains the light every night. This is one of the few opportunities we have to step back in time and shoud not be missed. Tours of the lighthouse and the museum are as charming as they are historic. Do yourself and your family a favour, Pass up on the Neon and manufactured resorts, visit history, visit charm, visit the real Bahamas. Go were the Bahamians go for a vacation.

Absolute Perfect Holiday
By ,
We jsut got back from our first of many vacations at the Abaco Inn. I cannot put to words how much we enjoyed it. We enjoyed it so much we wanted to post something to let others know how great this place is. I was kind of suprized when I read some of the previous posts and dont know when exactly they were posted but I can say it was not our experience. Having said that we went went to the abaco Inn with the mind set we were tired of Sandals, Club Med and Disney world type of places and wanted more of the living like a native Bahamian thing and that is what we got in spades. Now everymorning we would get up early and have a coffee watching the sunrise out of the Atlantic and what makes this place so unique is that to watch the sunset into the sea of Abaco is that all you have to do is turn 180 degrees. We found the beauty of this island to be breathe taking and the mood and attitude of everybody we met was hard to explain. Everybody was in a good mood and quite friendly, helpful and courteous. This was not only the staff at the Inn, it was everybody, boaters, shop owners and even the Lighthouse keeper. I love Lighthouses and the fact that one of the last three lighthouses in the world still manned by a keeper and a kerosene light was a highlight of my trip. This Elbow Cay is like going back in time, but with great Food and fine Drink. We went to the top of the Lighthouse many times to enjoy the view and relive centuries of marine history. The food at the resturants was excellent and presented go value. We were a little afraid of the food situation when we booked. We have found food in the Carribean to be suspect at times. When we have stayed at resorts we find the food to be fancy cafeteria type and lacking pesonality. We find even Cruises to be nothing to write home about, sure you get alot of food day and night but most of it is nothing special. At almost every meal I would be asking for the recipe or what did they do to make the fish taste like they did, and I am pleased to say they gave me the tips and hints. We went deep sea fishing while we were on Elbow and loved the whole experience, we also went golfing over on themain Island and enjoyed the day spent in the Marsh Harbour area. We loved the strolling through Hopetown and shopping at the quaint little shops, getting an ice cream and sitting by the harbour was better than any recharging we could have asked for. We plan on making the Abaco Inn our annual vaction and look forward to the next time we can get there, it cannot come quick enough Agreat Place Great Value, pictures and memories for a life time

It's a shame....
By ,
The views of this Inn are just beautiful! The location is great too. The Inn itself was dirty and a little run down. The rooms needed to be re-decorated or at least replace the furniture. Quite a few of the light bulbs did not work in the rooms nor did the fan in the bathroom. The room and linens did not feel or look as clean as should be. Service was ok, I know we were on "Island time" but service was slow and not all that cheerful. It's a shame because this Inn is so cute and it could be awesome with a little TLC.

Not what it used to be

The view is one of the most beautiful in the Abaco area of the Bahamas and the food is decent. The service, however, has become indifferent at best. Docks have been nicely repaired since hurricane damage.

Excellent location
By ,
The villa that we stayed in was remarkable. We had an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean from the front of the Villa, and a fantastic view of the harbour from the back of the room. The staff bent over backwards to help us in any way they could. The chef even prepared the fish we caught. The whole island of Hope Town/ Elbow Cay is simply breathtaking. We spent 10 glorious days there and will return again soon. Request Villa B..its the best!!

fantastic views
By ,
we spent our anniversary at the Abaco Inn and loved it. The views were amazing and we loved having our own hammock outside our door. The food was wonderful and the staff friendly. Bikes were provided to tour the island or we could take their complimentary shuttle into Hope Town. I definitely recommend the Abaco Inn.

Loved the Abaco Inn
By ,
I really liked the location of the Inn. At all times I was looking at the crystal blue ocean and/or sea. It was fabulous. The service was very laid back during meals, but at all other times the folks who worked there were friendly and prompt. I would recommend the Abaco Inn in Hopetown to all my friends looking for a laid back, casual and relaxing vacation.

Best view ever!!!!
By ,
I loved the Abaco Inn because it is on an amazing piece of property where you can enjoy both the Atlantic Ocean and the Sea of Abaco from your own room. The staff could not have been more helpful and made me feel like a good friend rather than a patron. The whole island is great but I would pick the Abaco Inn again for sure. I can't wait to get back!
