Not what is advertised

While this hotel is particularly well located, the rooms are not what is advertised. They are rather small, and the bathrooms are sub par. The small stall shower in our bathroom was set up in such a way that you could not stand under the shower head, but had to stand to one side, and try to rinse off as best you could. One of our friends rented a suite, which was well decorated and spacious--including the bathroom--but the drain in the floor of the bathroom emitted such a strong sewer gas odor that it made the room almost unusable! They poured water into the drain, which helped but did not solve the problem. Our other friends' bathroom had tile with lots of mold on the grout. This hotel was our most expensive during our visit to colonial Mexico, so one would have expected superior rooms. The lobby is beautiful, but they need to overhaul the rooms and especially the bathrooms. We noticed that a number of bathrooms were being renovated, so I suspect things will improve in the future. However, the real negative was the staff. While we had one young woman at the desk who was efficient and helpful, the rest of the staff seemed haughty and they were less than helpful. The food in the hotel was OK, but service was rather slow. Guanajuato is such a beautiful place, that I am sure one can find better accommodations for the same price or less. At least you should be able to find a place with cleaner, nicer bathrooms.
