This famous downtown hotel is luxury itself, but this luxury comes from another era. The decor ranges from lavish to downright garish throughout the lobby, rooms and renowned Le Lutetia restaurant. The overall effect is surprisingly charming, and the attentive staff makes the whole package run like clockwork. Rooms and suites range from the normal four-star amenities to suites with four-poster beds, mahogany furniture and other anachronistic touches. The Terrasse Magnetique , a rooftop garden and swimming pool, affords incredible views over the city.

"h de la m" - a euphemism 4 total value!
By Donald, 03/16/09
16 march 2009 as my rating clearly underscores for each of the four criteria --namely, service (score: 5/5); cleanliness (score: 5/5); location (score: 6/5!!); and value (score: 6/5)-- i was very, very impressed with my overall experience at the hotel de la montagne. the staff were friendly and helpful; the hotel room we were in was as spacious, if not more, than the delta for example, at only three-fifths the price ($92!!!); it was very clean; the bathroom was very roomy; and the location was PERFECT, a half-block from st. catherines street, and not more than a nice 25 minute walk to old montreal. what was also rather refreshing was the daily visit, early evening, to our room by a friendly staff member offering, well, refreshments of course, including chocolates and bottled water AT NO CHARGE. sweet!! i'm selfishly inclined not to "send" this review for fear that the hotel's prices may rise considerably as more people discover the total value awaiting the average traveller at this pleasantly satisfying hotel. other features which we did not get a chance to experience include, for example, daily happy hours from 5 - 8:00 p.m., restaurants, a dance club called thursday's to name just a few. in short, if you were to ask me whether i would recommend this hotel, i would have to say with no equivocation, ABSOLUTELY :-) BarBara & Don / OtTaWa

Total Scumbags - Stay Away They'll Rip You Off!
By Steven, 08/26/08
These scumbags ripped me off blind just for parking there. I walked into the De La Montagne parking garage to ask how much it would be to store two motorcycles. The attendant said it was $15 per day. I asked if I could put two bikes in one spot which they said was fine. I left the bikes in a little nook not big enough for a car right next to the attendants. Two days later when I tried to retrieve my bikes the attendant said it would be $60. I told him the quoted price was $15/day. He mumbled something about the time in or time out. Frustrated I decided to give in and looked in my wallet for $60 cash. After finding that I didn't have the cash this guy walked me up to the cashier's office where he said something to the counter guy in French. The counter guy then proceeded to charge me $130! Yes, the price had doubled yet again. I screamed for a bit at the parking lot attendant and eventually turned over my credit card. This was a big mistake. I should have called the cops. Having a long day ahead of me on motorcycle and trying to beat the rain cost me to settle up with this terrible hotel quickly and move along. Now that I am home I see that their website does in fact say that their parking rates are $15/day with no conditions attached. I have no idea where this ridiculous figure came from and now I have no recourse except to tell my story. Please don't stay with these rip-off artists.

A baseball trip's homerun!
By JAMESW, 05/12/07
Our family was in the area for a teen baseball tourney and to attend the Reds/Rockies game. The hotel was an easy drive to both and away enough to be quiet and safe at a great price. The hotel was not only very friendly (great cookies for the kids at checkin) but also clean and refreshing. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms spotless. The hotel is tucked away but right in the middle of the shopping area so there are many choices for dining in all price ranges. We enjoyed a Mexican rest. that the hotel told us about. We spent two nights and each morning had a different choice of breakfast items and they kept it stocked and hot until late morning. I am sure our family will stay there for our next tourney.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/06
underrated wonderful building and good service, food was good, bar & happy hour great ambience, concierge a little cool yet very helpful suggestions and appropriate service. Rooms a little dusty but service made up for it. Decor great antiques, solid and well kept. Yes we will go back. Balconies should not be mentioned as an attraction they are useless yet rooms to the front street can open window.

We liked the hotel for several reasons: a)the rate b)the extraordinary location, near the Rue Saint-Catherine,good restaurants, subway stations(guy-concordia and peel stations)etc. c) the magnific view from the magnetic terrace (the bar at the top of the hotel d)the confort of the room.

There is no other place to stay in Montreal
By Edger, 06/19/06
I have been making trips to Monteal every year for the last 14 years, with only 2 exceptions this is where I have always stayed. Sometimes its just 4 buddies, up for a hockey game, other times its 35 friends on a bus tour. Always, Always, friendly staff, helpful, accomodating and now that Ive been there awhile several of them remember and greet me by name, a very welcoming feeling. It has the best location (we spent a cold winter weekend, and we didn't even have to leave the block), hidden assets (Pool bar and lobby lounge), and charm. The only drawback is that I can't spend more time there. Look no further, this place is IT....

I'd definitely stay there again.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/19/06
The hotel has all I need. It is comfortable, very clean and very well managed. The staf are courteous. The underground vale parking is a true plus, especially in the cold weather.
