Holiday Inn Gatineau-Ottawa Plaza La Chaudiere, Gatineau

The front desk staff, particularly Milene, were excellent, and the room was comfortable and quiet. However....it is a throwback to 1982. Lots of dark browns .... made for a somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere. Didn't want to be in the room. The shower was so-so, and there is no fridge in the room. Ice machines not on every floor. Most egregious: $14/night for parking. I mean, really; this is Hull. No one is there at night. If you stay there, park overnight on the street....you won't have trouble finding a spot. Close to Ottawa, true, but worlds away.

I stayed at this hotel, this past weekend. It was a great location, only 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa. Front desk staff need alot of training in customer service. The Front desk staff were not helpful, and never once smiled when I was at the front desk. When one did go to the front desk, there was no one there to ask a question, they were all in the back talking. I waited for five minutes before someone came out and when she did, she went from laughing and smiling in the back to a frown. When I asked for a wake up call she wrote it down on a piece of scrap paper, and never once looked up at me. The rooms are in need of an update. I felt like I was back in the 60's. The furniture was old and dark, and the washrooms were the same. The rooms are big, and the beds are very comfortable, but that is about it. The room was clean, but the decor of the room made it seam dirty. I will pay a bit more the next time and stay somewhere a bit up to date.

We always stay at this hotel whenever in Ottawa, as it is a much better value than any in Ottawa. The staff speak mostly french, but there are many who are bilingual. The pool and whirlpool are nice, as is the exercise room. The rooms are a very good size, extremely clean and well appointed. Check out their values around the annual February Snow Fest.

The staff can be more accurate and professionnal. If you ask the same question to 3 employees, you will have 3 different answers! They are not well organized for groups and the rates are too high. The maid came in at 4pm to make my bed! Dinner...buffet with POGOS!I am not impressed with Holiday Inn. A confirmed and detailed reservation was not respected. When a group reserves together, they should be together on the same floor, there was another group of hockey, playing in the hall, very disruptive group, no supervision. The whole reservation thing was a mess!
