I Love it here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/07
It's clean, friendly, and a beautiful hotel. I've stayed here three times now and if they weren't closing it would be the place I'd stay all the time. The Club rooms are wonderful, it makes you feel at home.

reasons for concern
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/07
This was the third time that we had stayed at the York. Previously it was the Sheraton. The Hotel room we had was clean with lots of amenities. The furniture is getting dated and will soon need upgrading. With the exception of having the drivers window smashed out of my truck while parked out front of the hotel by persons unknown the stay was good. If you are driving a car the Hotel parks them underground where it is secure. Bigger vehicles are out front. Like every big city down town cores experience vandalism etc. This all being said after discussions with the hotel management they did make concessions on my bill that basically covered the deductable. My insurance picked up the rest. Would I stay at this hotel again... and would I recommend it to others....YES....in all fairness things like this could happen anywhere when you park downtown Winnipeg. Its something that everyone should be aware of though. My thanks to the hotel front desk manager who so graciously treated us during this time at the hotel. Its service like this that wants you to return to the hotel to stay. Thankyou

Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/29/07
We drive into Winnipeg to spend our anniversary weekend once a year, and usually stay at the Hotel Fort Garry. We decided to stay at a Sheraton this year, which is now the York, The Hotel. We booked the Club Room, which was supposed to be high end, $179.00 per night. The room is large, with a full balcony, but no chairs to sit outside. The furniture is old, and tatty, and the couch was pretty dirty looking. The tv was a 25", 10 yrs old at least. What suprised us the most was the lack of amenities you expect in a hotel of this class. There was no fridge (they charged you extra), there was 1 small glass in the bathroom, and another in the living room. There were no bathrobes, you had to call housekeeping if you wanted them. The hairdryer didn't work, there were a couple of small bottles of shampoo, but little else. There wasn't even a pen or paper, we had to find our own!!! On the positive side, the bed was comfy and the room was quiet, but for that kind of money, we will be returning to the Ft Garry next year!!!

WOW
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/21/07
My husband and I had rented a room for after a family wedding. When we went to check in the hotel staff saw that we were dressed up and upgraded our room free of charge. The room was gorgeous and had 2 balconies, the service was great. We will be staying here again!

Good Hotel, Great Resturant!
By Jennifer, 12/18/06
My husband and I were looking for somewhere to stay in Winnipeg for a stop over traveling from Chicago to Saskatchewan. We knew we would be exhausted from over 12 hours of driving and wanted to make sure we got a very nice room with a comfortable bed. I searched online for a few hours and the reviews seemed to all point at the York hotel. It ended up costing around $200 US for a room on the club level after parking and overnight internet service for one night. The club rooms are deluxe. They are large, with a couch and a large balcony. They come with a gigantic king bed. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were great but the blankets could have been a lot better! Softiel ruined me! The room came with $15 credit per person in the restaurant and the restaurant was amazing. I had the eggs Benedict mix and match salmon and traditional. It was exceptional. It was the best breakfast I have had in years. My husband had the steak and eggs and it was much better than any breakfast steak I had ever tried before. The breakfast 1st cook Donny Ludwig has been working in the York Hotel restaurant for over 20 years!!! And it shows!!! I would give the restaurant alone FIVE STARS. The club lounge was supposed to have H’orderves but the hotel wasn’t busy enough so we were given two $10 gift vouchers for the restaurant. It was also supposed to be stocked with soda and water but the fridge was empty. I called in and it was fixed right away. The pop machine on our floor was broken but after the free drinks we didn’t mind. Overall it is a nice hotel, not an extreme luxury hotel but it is very comfortable with good service in a good area. I would stay here again.

What a surprise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/14/06
The hotel was formerly the Sheraton, and although hesitant to stay at the independant version, I was quite surprised to see all the same staff and Management still performing a great job- they even made their own loyalty program using Best Buy, Home Depot, and other Gift Cards.... I was pleased that the hotel had lowered its rates too, but not by too much so as to make you think it was anything less than it was as a Sheraton. Great job everyone; see you in July!! Comfort and service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/23/06
After a long trip, it was wonderful to sink into a comfy bed with cotton sheets and wonderful soft pillows. I slept like a baby! The room was extremely comfortable and clean and the desk was a very useful area in which to work and prepare my presentation for the next day. I found all the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. Well done!

Great hotel, use diff sites for a deal
By J, 11/09/05
I got a room here one weekend in July 2005 for $115 US. Best deal I ever received on a hotel room. We stayed on the 8th floor. Had a king size bed. Everything was clean. Furiture was laid out well. It was very romantic. Nice restaurant. And, a nice separate bar to watch sports. Definitely head and shoulders above Radisson, Holiday Inn and the Marlborough. But, you will pay for the difference if you don't use multiple sites to check.

Nicest bed ever
By Maja, 05/16/05
I really liked this hotel as it did not look like any other ordinary hotel. The room was equiped with beautiful victorian type furniture. The bed was fluff with tons of pillows. I could not have asked for more. Great price, great location, great service.
