Don't book this hotel via priceline.com
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/15/10
Wanted to get away for a nice date night with my wife downtown so I thought I'd try booking a hotel through Priceline.com. What a mistake. I guess it was a good price of $108 all in for what they call a 4 star hotel. I feel that the Hotel staff checked us into the worst room in the hotel because we used priceline & got such a good deal. I was less than impressed when I walked into the room & found it small and had 2 double beds. I went down to the front desk to see if they could change us to a single queen or king bed since I was hoping to have a romantic night with my wife. The skinny little dweeb with 2 earings told me that they were fully booked & that they had nothing available. After returning to the room, dropping off our suitcase & leaving for dinner we walked past the front desk & I saw the 2 front desk people look up at me, whisper something to each other & start giggling. I was pretty upset by this as they made me feel like a second class citizen. I got the impression the were less than accomodating because we got such a good deal via priceline.com. Upon our return to the hotel staff I notice the front desk was staffed by different people so I asked if they had any availabilty for a room with a queen or king bed & was informed the had lots. Interesting? Then I asked if we could switch from our room with 2 double beds to one of those rooms & they said it would be a $30 upgrade since we booked through priceline. I'm not sure if this is the policy with all hotels that accept priceline bookings but I would never book another room through priceline if I wanted a romantic night & after this experience I would never stay at this hotel again.

Worst Hotel Ever!!! Shame on you Marriott
By lawdogg, 6/1/10
We used Priceline which also is a joke to book this hotel. We requested a 4 star hotel and that's what Priceline showed for this hotel. And when we got there it was like 1980's Las Vegas. The carpet looks like someone ate a bag of skittles and then threw it up. They said they just went through a massive remodel but if I were them I would sue whoever they hired to design it. Very nasty colors, no exhaust fan in bathroom so it gets all steamy and wet after a hot shower, the lamp switch is located on a cord BEHIND the bed, no robes in the room, no ice bucket, all the trash cans in room had no bags so we were smelling everyone else that stayed there's garbage. The pool was small and had exposed wires and pipes on the ceiling. Then they have the gall to charge $35.00 to valet your car??? And the $22.00 breakfast is just an over inflated continental breakfast. We stay at many hotels monthly and I have to say this was the worst in a long time. When we complained to the manager he said they are only 3 stars not 4 as Priceline called it. The Marriott Pinnacle across the street which we stayed at the weekend before was a classy and nice hotel. If you want a nice hotel with friendly service goes elsewhere. And what sucks is when we complained all they kept saying was "You booked it on Priceline sorry"

Loved it!!!
By MichaelF, 5/19/07
The Renaissance Harbourside is in the perfect location downtown, right by the harbour, especially convenient if you don't have a car and rely on walking to get around town. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and fresh, with nice new linens and furniture. The view of the harbour is slightly blocked by some new high-rises going up on Cordova Street, but you still get a very picturesque view of the water and mountains. You can get to Stanley Park, Gastown, Robson St., and Granville Island all by foot from this location. The pool, spa, sauna, and fitness room are all a huge plus. And the restaurant: excellent food, excellent service, and the dining area provides a relaxing view of the harbour. I would definitely come back to this hotel.

Poor policy, ungracious compensation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/07
We had confirmed reservations and called enroute to be sure they knew we were coming. We arrived at 5pm to learn they were overbooked and could not accomodate us. The entire city was booked apparently. They referred us to a dive hotel about 20 minutes away by car, and worlds away culturally. We complained to Renaissance and the reservationist suggested another hotel. It was just as bad or worse. We opted to sleep in our sport wagon--the dive hotels were that bad! It actually was probably not right decision, as we hardly slept at all before embarking on a long day of travel. But we couldn't imagine sleeping in the rooms we were shown--dark, smelly, worn out, and the noisy surrounding area would have necessitated ear plugs to sleep. My point is that the hotel justified their overbooking policy, using the airlines as an example. Well, we said what you would have said. You can NOT compare the two situations. The airlines offer fliers a choice and they compensate with vouchers, and they still get you to your destination, in the same if not better flight accomodation. People who CHOOSE this option are not usually inconvenienced, but choose to spend a longer layover here rather than there in many instances. After we returned home, the experience still aggravated me. I spoke with a manager who refused to see my point, but offered a one night stay. Well, even if I visited Vancouver often, which I don't, I would hardly feek compensated. I would like to see a policy change. My guess is they offer the lowest rates in the area because they overbook and therefore run closer to capacity than the other hotels. Travelers should not be treated so carelessly by a hotel wanting a respectable reputation among discrimminating travelers. C. Borger

Extremely overprice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/22/06
Way too expensive for what they offer. The location is good, but that is all. It is definitely not worth $200 for what I paid, plus $19 for parking, plus $20 for internet connection. The $21 breakfast is nothing to brag about either After staying there for 2 nights, I moved to a Motel nearby for $90 a night, breakfast included, wonderful service, no extra charge for anything

Not worthy
By zhen jiang, 10/13/06
The room is clean and comfortable. The location is very good. However, there is a recent contruction over there blocking the view of habour, if the guest stays at lower floors. The service is terrible. My wake-up call always gets 10-15 minutes' delay. The hotel tour (Grayline? I am not sure) had 30 minutes' delay. And I must wait outside for the bus, not in lobby. I saw one guest of Renaissance and his family were put into a wrong tour bus and had to come back to hotel (Lucky me. I eventually got into the right bus). I bought the internet access for one night but was double charged. The hotel does not have wireless in rooms. The wireless access at lobby is not stable. That costs me a lot when I thought the file should be transmitted but actually not. The persons working at front desk are inexperienced and work inefficiently. For money exchange, I have to line up twice and was asked the same questions by two persons. One of them asked me the same question twice! I thought she had a short memory.

Wonderful Experience
By Nathan, 7/8/06
Overall I was very happy with my stay at the Vancouver Renaissance. I was a bit concerned because the prices seemed a bit on the high side even for Vancouver, but after my stay, I think the great service from the staff and the excellent location made up for the higher prices. Location: It's located in the financial district, so even while walking back to the hotel after midnight, we felt very safe. It is located only a couple blocks from Canada Place, which gives you easy access to the cruise ship terminals, tour busses, and excellent views of the harbor. Seawall is only a couple blocks away, giving easy access to great food, as well as an easy walk to Stanley Park. You can also easily walk to the Waterfront Terminal which gives you access to the SeaBus to North Vancouver (Capilano & Grouse Mountain), SkyTrain, West Coast Express, and the local bus routes. Staff: Front Desk was very efficient while checking in and out. Concierge was very knowledgeable on local dining, attractions, etc. They also have someone available for purchasing tickets to attractions and travel. This was a very nice service considering most attractions had long wait lines for purchasing tickets; we were able to conveniently breeze past everyone and enter immediately. Club Lounge: It's a smaller lounge, but the staff during my stay was very helpful and always willing to give ideas on dining and attractions. Nice selection for both breakfast and evening snacks. Due to the size of this room, and the fact that it seems rather busy at times, it's not somewhere I would recommend bringing the kids. Room: Rooms are a bit dated (Walls & Carpet), but pleasant nonetheless. They have the newer style beds with all white linens. Bathroom floors are heated (at least they were on the Club Floor). Views on the harbor side of the hotel are wonderful, even from the lower levels.

Great Harbour Views, Good Location
By Choong K, 2/3/06
I stayed at this hotel for 5 days in October 2005. It is in a great location; situated in a quiet part of town but within walking distance to Canada Place, Robson Street, Gastown and Chinatown. Even Stanley Park is within reasonable walking distance. It is also a scheduled stop for the Airporter Bus so it has easy access to and from Vancouver Airport. I was given a room on one of the higher floors overlooking the Harbour...the views were absolutely magnificent with the mountains and North Vancouver as a backdrop! The room was spacious with all the latest amenities and even a heated bathroom floor. However, the decor is a bit dated. The entire hotel needs a fresh coat of paint both inside and out since it looks very old and tired compared to the Marriot Hotel opposite. There was new development on the Harbor front with a lot of building activity so it was rather noisy during the daytime.

Friendly hotel service in Canada
By Altro, 1/23/06
This hotel is situated right on the harbor and has spectacular views. The staff was quick to respond to all inquiries. Access to tons of shopping and activities were right at hand. The fully enclosed pool/sauna/fitness center was 24 hours! Very secure building with carded elevators. Older hotel, but getting better with age. Service with a smile.
