Howard Johnson Hotel Downtown, Vancouver

very disappointing, pictures on website deceiving,,scruffy, bar and dining area noisy and dull,smoke alarm cover hanging off wall in bedroom and metal pipes across ceiling, bus stop outside front, would not go again!

We were woken up in the middle of the night by mice and had to switch rooms at 4:30am. In the new room, we got red welts on our arms from bed bugs. The manager would not respond to our complaints nor contacts from an intermediary booking agent. The manager is rude, unfriendly and non responsive. This hotel is infested with mice and bugs and is truly a health hazard. Do not stay here!

The hotel manager was very rude. Accused me of smoking in room. I dont smoke. They said it smelled like smoke every day that I stayed. He even said the hallways smelled like smoke. I even went back to check room with him but all I could smell was him cause he just got done smoking. What's fuuny is why did the wait till check out to comfront me. I thinks it a scam to charge you $250. This manager waited till I left hotel a chase me down the street at the bus stop to tell me this. That's why I came back to check room for myself. Watch yourself with this hotel. Plus it was to nosie to sleep with the hotel bar under your room. Plus the area is filled with young drunk kids fighting outside night clubs that fill the area around hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Plenty of other hotels that are same price in better area

This hotel had a great location for travelers without small children. Across the strett from the hotel were many 'adult' stores and shady characters coming and going from them. The lobby was small and hot. They Internet costs .75 a minute and they have one computer. The staff were fairly rude and unhelpful. It was fine for our tour of the Pacific Northwest because we spent our money on tours, nightlife, jewelry, etc and didn't really care how upscale our room was.

The Howard Johnson was a very nice hotel. It wasnt too extravagant but it felt somewhat ritzy. The location is amazing... very close to good shopping dining and clubbing. The service was very nice and the restaurant/ bar attached was amazing. We will definitely be staying there again...hopefully sometime soon.

The hotel is located across the street from at least three adult book stores, the streets around the hotel were very unclean, leaving us with an unsafe feeling. There were no sit down resturants close only small local places. The room itself was not what I expected, the bed was horrible the shower didn't work, and when we asked for an iron they sent one up that was dirty and covered with melted plastic that promptly rouined my husbands nice shirt. Those are only a few of our experiences. Needless to say, we left early

The manager and one of the staff were rude and ignorant beyond compare, insulting both me and my wife. The chances are that you wont get the promised wireless internet access unless you are in one of a few rooms within the reception radius. The area is very seedy, with peepshows across the street and homeless going through bins outside, frequently begging money and cigarettes, sometimes agressively. Dont bring your wife and kids here, or come here if you are a lady travelling alone. Vancouver is a lovely city, apart from a few areas. See the best of it, but do it from somewhere else unless price is your main obstacle. Oh, and dont pay the internet price on the website; it is not the lowest as promised, and they wont honour the promise either. My colleague got a 40% reduction on the advertised price when he phoned a week or so before travelling, in peak season!

This Hotel surprised me of it's rate, location and beauty. Our office deals with Hollywood North and the staff of movie actors and producers. This Hotel helped us out with our accommodation for they have the ameneties and service we are looking for. From the outside, you will not notice how lovely the decor is. The hotel is almost a boutique hotel. They also have the best person at the Front Desk called LUCIA which is one of the best sales staff I've encountered. I highly recommend this hotel to all the travellers that is looking for a nicely renovated high-end looking low rates Hotels. Oh! the location is one of the best as well, did I mention that the clubs, restaurants and pubs are all on the same street? I also like the public bus running on Granville st. very convenient. From now on this Hotel is our Corporate Hotel of choice.

This hotel is central to everything and brand new! The lobby looks and smell good and the rooms are newly decorated with great bright decors. I like the staff they are all helpfull. I will stay here again everytime I'm in Vancouver. Thanks Howard Johnson for great service, style and most of all GREAT RATES!
