Enjoyed my vacation despite this hotel
By Jan, 9/20/12
we booked thru a 3rd party . i was promised a 250 sq. room with view of courtyard or wood. I was given a tiny 165sq. ft room so small there was no dresser in it. the room was located on a subfloor which meant that when i looked out my window i had a view of the feet of people walking on a sidewalk. all this for $500.00! I talked to the front desk and was informed the hotel was full. They did give me two free drinks and a fruit platter of 4 slices of water melon and two slices of canteloupe. when the third party booker contacted them they lied about the size of room and view. i guess this is the Fairmont experience. The Canadian Rockies are great but avoid the Fairmont at all cost

Not family friendly
By Nattie, 3/25/11
We paid $500 for the night but we didn't get the service and the great room. It was cramped for 4 people. Views and hotel is incredible and the outdoor pool is a plus however you pay a high price that is not up to high standards like other Fairmonts. This is by far the worst one I have been in. Room service was poor and front agents were poor as well. Not worth the price. Warning, don't go on the family day weekend. I agree with the other review, visit but no need to stay there!

Must stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/24/11
A trip to Banff is not complete without staying here. The hotel is so beautiful and has so much to do. The dining here is great, espically the Sunday brunch. The hikes, pools, rafting etc. It is a one stop in Banff. Don't miss it at any price.

Visit but don't stay there
By CaY, 1/5/10
The building is glorious and the location is stunning. However, many of the rooms are very tired and the service is crummy, especially for the price. The quality of service and food takes a steep dive at holiday peak times, but is much better at slow times. For holidays they abandon table service in favor of buffet service and the wait staff is overwhelmed even then. The hotel is fun to visit and the public spaces are fun to explore. However, you will explore along with dozens of other tourists and the endless shops make it feel a bit like a crowded indoor mall. The spa is nice although cut off from the gym and pool - so navigating between the various facilities can be a challenge. The golf course is amazing and well worth a special trip all by itself. In the winter they make a small outdoor skating area with bon fire and skate rentals = very charming. But while this hotel is worth a visit, stay sowhere else and find other places for your special meals.

Perfect Hotel / Perfect Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/17/09
The hotel was amazing. The food was great and the town is wonderful. We can't wait to go back. It is a far cry from Memphis. The staff was wonderful and the senery is the best in the world.

beautiful to see, stay somewhere else
By Vicki Parrott, 6/28/09
our room was small, not updated ran out of soap, went to the spa an advertised package(the revitalizer) booked for 275,00, ended up 332.00 for 90 minutes. I have paid far less for a lot better experience. My therapist was late, and then did a very average job. for the money, it was not worth it! The golf however was enjoyable and a beautiful experience. Bar service was excellent, drinks pricey 18.00 for premium martini

You have not been to Banff if you have not stayed here and also taken the Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mt.

Why was everything we wanted to do closed?
By Brenda R, 12/9/08
My husband and I stayed here for one night. We found it disappointing because the restaurant we had wanted to eat at was closed that evening for some unknown reason. It was either walk out of doors to a german restaurant which we were not sure if it was opened at this time of year) or go and eat in the lounge. So we ate in the lounge where the service was so so. It was a 45 minute wait for a couple of burgers, but the server was always stopping by to check on our drinks! After eating we went to pay, but our server had disappeared and it took about 15 minutes for another server to locate her. We then decided to go for a swim before we called it a night (in the outdoor pool). After being in this pool for 20 minutes or so, we were chased out of there, along with seven other swimmers, because supposely this pool was closed for maintenance (door to outside was not locked nor was anything posted on the door). On a positive note, our room was clean and upon check in, we had been upgraded. Would we stay here again? Probably not.
