Not what I expected from the website pictures
By brandy, 11/11/09
Reminded me of a motel from the 60's. The most uncomfortable bed! Think I would have been better off in a sleeping bag on the beach. Room was not cleaned so had to get more towels, etc. Breakfast buffet was a joke-bananas were ready to be used for banana bread. Only good thing about room was it was clean when we arrived and the water pressure in shower was great. Next visit will spend a few extra dollars for a decent hotel.

The price is great and service is good..The rooms are great for the price ..I would go back..I have been there 3 times and soon will be my 4th. Why pay up into the hundreds for the same view and a clean place to lay your head when you can get the same for cheaper?

Quaint
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/21/08
Reminded me of the 1960's. Old, yet clean, friendly staff, rooms cleaned daily. There was a dog convention at the hotel, and that's why we stayed at the Sands. Pet Friendly. Walk out your door to the dunes, and the beach. Easy walk to town. Continental breakfast was great.

not bad!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/04/07
We have gone to the ocean about 3 times in the past years. We have always stayed at The Sands. we have been there when they weren't remaodeled and when they were. We are a large family of anywhere from 5-8 (we are foster parents) the kids have always liked it and we enjoy the time too. We have always stayed on the lower level 2 bedroom pet rooms near the outdoor pool. The kids can swim and they are right in our veiw. The beach is very close and so is town with all kinds of activities everything in walking distance. The rooms are kept clean. It is nice to have a full size fridge and stove to use with my size family and the cost is just right. We will always go to the Sands when in Ocean Shores. It may not be a 5 star but to us it is close for the money and space needed:)

I will never go back.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/15/07
I had the dubious privilege of staying in a junior suite at The Sands, booked by a friend who was staying there also. If I had made the reservations myself, I may not have known what we were getting either. The photos on the Ocean Shores website for the hotel are misleading at best. The photos for the junior suite make the room out to be at least twice its actual size, unless you know what you're looking at. This place is more like a roadside motel that has never been upgraded. The balcony and stairs to the upstairs rooms are rickity; the furnishings in the whole room, kitchen included, are all relics from the 70's with no recent upgrades. The complimentary duraflame log went unused because the heat in the room was such that we needed to open the balcony door in order to cool off. When I burn something in the fireplace in my own apartment, there is no need to crack a window, so their suggestion leads me to believe that their chimneys aren’t cleaned regularly and so even with the damper fully open the smoke probably wafts out into the hotel room to set off fire alarms and the hotel staff is sick of that particular problem. We didn't make use of the hot tubs or pool since that's not why we were in Ocean Shores, and the Continental Breakfast is only out for 2 hours between 8 and 10, closing much too early for my vacation habits. Being January, I didn't exactly want to go wandering outside in my pajamas, so I would have needed to get up, shower, and get dressed before going to find the separate building with the breakfast. Speaking of showers, shall we just say the bathroom left a lot to be desired? Matchbox-sized bathroom with two doors; the door from the kitchen was a broken pocket door that didn't slide and didn't close, mostly because the door and frame aren't square and the door CANNOT close. The window and vinyl shades are moldy and rusty from the close proximity to the shower. Oh, I didn't mention they're IN the shower. Tiles were missing and broken, and there was no hair dryer. When I pack to go on vacation in a hotel, I don't even pack a hair dryer any more because EVERY hotel has one in the bathroom! Well, every one but The Sands. Since there are several other hotels in the area, I seriously considered checking out early on Saturday and staying in one of the other hotels, but with The Sands’ 48 cancellation policy, combined with the fact that they charged us upfront for the whole weekend upon check-in, they probably would not have refunded us our money if we left early. On the up-side, the best part of the hotel room was that it was at least warm and out of the wind. I won't even justify their self-styled "resort" with the title. This place is just an overpriced (due to location) albeit clean roach motel.

The staff was so accomodating and made sure our stay was great. They are also pet friendly which is what we were looking for. Rooms were a great value and clean.

confirm the price of a room!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/18/06
Although my room was clean, bed comfortable, the continental breakfast great, staff friendly and helpful, excellent location in regard to the beach and activities ~ the grounds are strewn with litter and the less costly rentals are run-down. Most importantly, if you reserve a room through one of those booking agencies, make sure you are getting the price quoted to you. When I checked in, I found the price $10 higher a night. When I told the clerk, she just smiled and shrugged, so I took the loss to avoid an argument.

Best deal at ocean shores
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/17/06
When I go to the ocean I spend most of my time outside playing. I just need a hotel room to sleep and shower. If that it what you are looking for this hotel is right for you. It is comfortable and cheap so you can spend your money on more important things. And although it is not new and sparkley, the staff is nice and the roomns are clean.

Great for the Price.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/18/06
My room had an ocean view, a comfy bed, a kitchen (with full size fridge and stove), a fireplace, and cable TV. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They gave me keys to view three different style rooms, one of the rooms had been remodeled. I opted for the unremodeled because of the patio, fireplace, and kitchen. They have an indoor pool, hottub, and beach vollyball area. ........$99. I thought it was reasonable compared to the other hotels in the area which were all about $50-$100 more. Now, in terms of the condition of the Hotel/"Resort", it definitely is not new. It could use fresh coats of paint and new furnishings. But, meh, i'm no snoot. My time was spent at the local shops and on THE BEACH!!

Great Place to Stay!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/18/06
The Sands Resort is a great Hotel. Ideal for family stays. They provide two pools as well as two private hot tubs. Although the Sands may not appeal to the eye upon arrival, all of the rooms are remodeled and have a very commy/home feel. The beds are changed daily and the bathroom restocked daily. The service is great and the location is ideal! I recommend the Sands!
