Overpriced considering the quality.
By Jeff, 8/17/12
The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was large enough for me and clean. The bathroom was extremely tight. The location was only a five minute walk from downtown. Being on the waterfront meant hearing the train and the boat horns and the loud jets from PDX not far away. My biggest complaint was that on a couple of mornings I could not get hot water for my shower. I bought one beer for $5.25 at the bar. I considered their beverage and food prices to be steep. Fortunately my room had a microwave and refrigerator. A couple of major tv stations although listed on the placard were not available for viewing. I want to mention that they offered no premium stations. On the plus side were free WiFi and parking. I still consider it a better deal than the overpriced Hilton up the street.

Not a good value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/21/10
I do not recommend this hotel. There were ants in our bathroom, which the hotel did nothing about. In fact, the person at the front desk payed me no attention when I alerted him to the situation. Also, we asked for an extra blanket and none was received. Additionally, we were charged a smoking fee of $250 after being told that there would be no charge and neither my husband nor I smoke. There are plenty of other hotels in Vancouver. In fact, the Hilton is about .5 miles away. I highly recommend finding other accommodations. I will never stay at the Red Lion again and have advised my friends to do the same.

Great food and service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/22/09
We love the happy hour menu in the restaurant...reasonably priced and delicious food. Was so surprised to read the negative reviews. We love going there for special occasions.

The Chef cannot even cook a Steak????
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/29/09
I ordered a 12oz New York Steak for $26.75 med. rare.....came to me med raw, OK...I have blown it myself when cooking on a grill, so we sent it back, no problem right....wrong...came back a second time medium raw, our waitress then suggested the Prime Rib, by then my wife was done eating, said yes....at lease it was cooked right. Could not belive they Do Not Know How To Cook A Steak? By the way, I had the Crem Brule for desert......it was like a Cheescake.

Bad Customer Service
By Amanda, 5/4/09
Staff was rude and unwelcoming. It seemed the girl at the front desk hates her job... The room was nice and clean. There is little lighting though, and my tv never stopped humming. My toilet clogged twice! The view of the river was very nice.

Bad, Bad Brunch
By F.B, 4/26/09
Took 5 people Bill over $200. w/tip Food was terrible, Should have went to McDonalds, for a bisquit. Very disappointed, and no reply back from them, after discussing. I have held parties there and new years this year. Never again. If you want my business, you had better fix this! I dont forget, but I can forgive.

Trains Trains Trains
By Mark, 6/14/08
I booked based on the central location right on the river and this was fine. The room was a little small but OK for one person and not bad for the cost. The restaurant was good but not great and a bit overpriced, crab cakes were excellent but everything else we had, fish, scallops were average. The biggest problem with this hotel is train noise which is constant, it's also right on the flightpath of PDX so sometimes aircraft noise can be loud. The wireless signal was very weak in my room I was only just able to connect. The pool area needed a good clean . The rooms are poorly insulated so we could hear people in the room next door talking. Overall glad we only stayed two nights.

Worst place to spend $25
By SS, 6/2/08
We went there for our mothers birthday. Had the buffet and was told go at our leasure..after 10 mins and 1st round was told chef giving last call and they were going to take down the food. they moved fast and we were left hungry but with a bill not worth the food.. food was dry.. eggs tasted like the old eggs I would get in the army mess.. powder. service was poor.. I would recommend anyone going to this place to remember back in he hayday this was a kickin place to be.. now its on its last leg and not a place to go for anything except for the view. you can get that on the bridge.

I couldn't wait on hold any longer!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/08
I enjoyed my stay at the RL at the Quay years ago, and thought it would be a good place to put up a visiting business colleague. I was transferred and put on hold for way too long - and just to make a simple one night reservation. Then when I tried to shortcut the reservation process and use the on-line reservation service, your computer system saw today as in the past and couldn't process my request. I put my guest up at another hotel.

Disappointing service
By katy, 7/5/07
We went to the Quay July 4th, to watch the fireworks from our reserved "Riverside Room". When we got there our room was poolside, desite the fact that we called 4 times to insure that we had the room that we wanted. The staff told me that even if you reserve the room 1 year in advance, that they would not guarentee that we could have that room. Not that they told us that when we called several times. I was calling because they lost our 1st reservations!!!! The lady at the front desk was rude, passive aggressive and apparently hates her job. It seems crazy to have someone like that, be the first person to greet folks especially if you want to make a good 1st impression of your hospitality and your ability to satisfy the their needs. She made me feel like I was unwelcome and she said that my parents were not welcome unless they were paying guests. Fortunately, I challenged her, I mean come on, they were coming to have dinner with us at their restaurant! They charged my parents $10.00 to park in the parking lot, to visit us, even though they were not staying for the fireworks show. It's no wonder that the hotel still had rooms as of 1:00 on the 4th, and the lot was not full. Pretty location though, that's what kept me from going elsewhere. I would never rely on them for big engagements. Too risky. Unless you were going to practically live there to be sure your requests actually where attended to. Get ready AFTER you've paid, for opposition, even before you get started, their first words seem to be no or you have to pay extra. We love the area right on the river. I hope that another hotel comes to vancouver with customer service skills, and nicer accomodations. We would love to feel welcome instead of like an inconvience when we are patronizing a business. Especially on a vacation. Our room was updated which was so much nicer than 2 years ago, though the keys were not dependable in opening the door to our room. The door going out to the pool would not open on the second floor so we had to go to the first. I was glad we didn't have an emergency. Overall, a beautiful area, the pool area was nice, the fireworks where awesome on the riverfront, even though we hoped to be on the river side, and we planned ahead to do so, we still had fun even after a disappointing beginning. I think that the Quay must depend on the beauty of the Columbia River to smoothe out their lack of customer service and their indifference to their customers. It sure worked for us.
