Please Read Before Booking Reservation
By ,
I had been staying at the Stein Eriksen Lodge for over 5 years during the New Year's Even season. Every year I book the hotel in January and pay in full in July to secure my spot. I also follow up with the hotel every month to ensure I get a specific room. Even after all this effort and guarantees I received, I was informed upon arrival my room was given away. Another guest was not satisfied with his/her room and the manager on duty gave that guest our room. We were first told that the guest had a guarantee on a room type that was not available so the Lodge gave the guest our room. Upon talking to several managers including the General Manager, we were told that the Lodge does not guarantee any room type, which just contradicted everything we had been told before. They will not guarantee any type of room no matter how much you book or pay in advance. We were told several different stories on what happened before our arrival but not once did anyone in management admit guilt. Instead, they all blamed it on the reservationist saying she had no right to guarantee anything, which I thought was comical since the person who took our room was "guaranteed" a specific type of room. In conclusion, I would be very cautious about staying here and I have decided after shelling out a lot of money every year and being courteous to the Lodge's staff, I was not respected and will not be returning next year.

NOt what it used to be
By ,
First, I have stayed at the Lodge off & on for 15 or so years & have always returned because of the excellent service & superior accommodations. Unfortunately, Stein has recently renovated greatly enlarging the number of rooms. Along with the renovation has come much poorer service (slow to acknowledge a request: we waited 45 min. for ice which is not available other than thru request; long waits in snow for valet parked car which is your only option for parking; restaurant service is less than professional as wait staff talked more to themselves than attending guests & did not replace silver or attend to the tables unless flagged). Our room billed as a deluxe with fireplace at $270 nightly (includes tax)+ $10 per day for car park) was just outside the main entrance, in a unit with 4 rooms/suites--ours was partly below ground level, was large but dark looking out on a concrete barrier that was below ground in part). The unit joined to a foyer serving all & which in our room created a vacuum & startling noise with every entry from outside--frequent on the weekend. The suite adjoining ours apparently had an icemachine that backed onto our bathroom & which rattled very noisily as the occupants had a party on Friday night & used a lot of ice. The fireplace was gas and not wood which is a new feature since remodelling. When I inquired about these problems with the desk manager as I checked out after a three night stay, I was told that it was "luck of the draw" that some got 2d level, some basement, some wood fireplaces, others gas, some get 2 queens (which I had requested), some 1 king which we got. He shrugged as if it was not too important. This is not a 4 or 5 star resort. It is overrated & too expensive for what is offered in my opinion. I am not planning to return as there are other better choices with more professional service. Also, free wireless internet is offered but the signal was too weak for other than blinky reception.

loved the place except for the pillows
By ,
the pillows sunk your head to the bed, woke up unrested. excellent service, maybe too good however, every time I turned around there were three to five guys helping me that expected a tip. When one guy could have handeled the job- started to get really annoyed, especially when I checked out and found out they charged me to park in the garage. If I had known that, I wouldn't have tipped the parking attendants so much.

During our stay at Stein ERikson Lodge we really enjoyed the clean bathrooms and spa kits. WE did not enjoy the outside business but it was made up for by the great features of the hotel!

overpriced and overhyped
By ,
We had arranged what was described as a deluxe room with 2 kings, large picture window and small patio. what we got for $900.00 was a below ground room with aview of the wall.My wife called and tried to remedy the situation but was told "you,re problem is that your not a skier".I tried after that with a manager named jeng but I was quickly dismissed in a very condescending fashion. Bottom line the restaurant is good ,slopeside location is nice but for the money you can easily do better than stein eriksen.

Terrific Splurge
By ,
Yes -it is expensive but when you add up the service and location and accomodations it is actually a terrific value. The Lodge's Glitretind Restaurant is exceptional - The food is great and prepared thoughtfully. The staff are friendly, professional and pleasant. I've seen many of the same employees year after year. Happy and respectful young men and women come to work the winters from all over the world. My husband and I were just saying to each other, what makes the Stein Eriksen lodge one of our favorite spots isnt that it is very fancy, it isn't at all - nor is it pretentious. It is simply "just right". The perfect place to have a fun and relaxing and pampered ski vacation with the perfect accomodations and the perfect staff. Period. We also like it in the summer but it is MUCH quieter then, with hardly anyone around, it is mostly a winter destination resort. The brunches are excellent with the Sunday Brunch a real winner. We've eaten at all the major Park City restaurants, Grappa, Chez Betty etc, but always come to the conclusion that the Glitretind is our favorite place to eat. Obviously one can't eat every meal in just one restaurant. But I would say we eat about half of them there. Also after a day of skiing - it's fun to go down to Park City for dinner and walk along Main St, There is a good book/fudge store where you can nip in to warm up and grab a sweet. Lots of galleries. Still every time we eat down at Park City, we come back to the Lodge thinking what a good value it is to eat at the Glitretind. No crowds, no loud noises, terrific food, so pleasant. As I said before, it is just done right. But you will see what I mean if you go. Enjoy! Oh re the skiing at Deer Valley --1) it is never crowded because they limit sales to a maximum number. 2)No snowboarders allowed. 3) There is a dedicated ski lift that takes you right to the hotel when you are done. Everything has been thought of.
