Camino Real El Paso, El Paso

This is a very nice hotel, very clean, comfortable beds and friendly staff. Everything worked very well. The room was big and had nice furniture. i was there 5 nights. We had our State conference there. All of the hotel that I saw is beautiful. The shuttle driver was very accomodating and offered safety suggestions for the area. It is only about 10 blocks from the border with tons of shopping on both sides of the street. I walked alone all the way to the border once, walked to Walgreens and Penneys and to McDonalds. I was told it was a safe area as long as I don't try to walk across the bridge and not to walk after dark alone. I would definitely stay here again!

Great 1912 hotel, downtown. friendly staff at the Dome. nice breaktast buffet.

Hotel staff is very nice, but the accomodations are run down and out-dated. Nice to have wi-fi in the room. Was looking forward to a nice relaxing stay - did not deliver.

I stayed here numerous times in the early 90's for work. Loved the place. Dome bar was beautiful. It saddens me to read it is nolonger-the place to stay. I was just checking to see if it was SAFE to stay in the area in today's border conditions. If anyone has recent experience please post.....

My husband and I stayed her after a Military ball, its a nice but NOT a 4 star hotel. Large rooms with little furniture. Nothing grand about it. It's down town near mexico and the area around it is less than stellar. Go over to the airport area but nicer places in my opinion

If you love art deco and the feeling of what it used to be like this is the place. The staff is the best and the rooms are big and warm feeling. Gives one the feeling of being extravagent and wordly. The Tiffany ballroom is an awesome one-of-a-kind sight to behold.

Great Front desk Staff Very friendly and helpfull. Rooms are great clean and ready, Food and service at the Azulejos was great. Best service bar at the Dome Bar. This is the Best Hotel Staff in El Paso, Texas I gurantee

My husband and I stayed at the Camino Real for 3 days prior to his shipping out to Iraq. We secured the room with our debit card but when checking in we asked if it would be possible to pay with a different credit card. They said yes when we check out we could. When it came time for checkout- we paid with the other card no problem and it showed up on our account immediately. All of a sudden 9 days later- they decided out of the blue to charge our debit card too even though we've already paid. The front end manager told me it would take up 72 business hours to get the refund. 7 days later- no refund. I even wrote the corporate office and all they did was forward it back on to the Camino Real El Paso and didnt bother responding! I was told today by the front end manager that it has been credited back. It hasnt. My bank verified this and there is nothing in holding. Unpteen hassles with Front End manager to try and get it taken care of and I keep having to explain the same things to him over and over. I have the feeling he has no idea what is really going on and I still have no resolution- I kept getting told it had been credited back and that it was verified with their bank Wells Fargo. I spoke with him about doing a 3 way call with my bank so they could verify with him with my permission that the funds were not in my account nor were they in holding. I was told they would arrange a conference call with my bank and call me back and 3 and hours later,,still no call. I had to call back. Problem still isnt fixed. I spent the entire day trying to get it sorted out- and it still hasnt been rectified. $449.79 disappears out of my checking account because of a mistake they made and I feel they need me to hold their hand every step of the way to figure it all out. About the Hotel, it is in a prime location- however the city is almost like a ghost town and 95% of the stores are shut down. The ones that are open close at 5 even on the weekends. There are a lot of china town type vendor stalls down towards Juarez which is 6 blocks away. When we were there however- there were 2 drug war shoot outs resulting in16 deaths the day before in Jaurez so Military members were reported not to go across the border. So while the location is central to downtown, it still isnt quite safe. Building: The elevators are broken and everyone in the hotel had to take the service elevators which are gross. half the time the carpeting in it was pulled up and the ground was filthy. We had to ride with cleaning staff and service men almost every trip along with the rest of the hotel patrons. The doors also dont work properly and we even got stuck in them once and one other time it didnt even line up with the floor and when stepping out my husband almost fell! From other reviewers- we have since learned that their elevators have been broken for at least 6 months already. Prior to the issues with the double charge for my stay- I would have honestly given this hotel a 3 rating- however after the service I have received after the fact, Im giving it a 2 rating, and that is being generous.

The wireless Internet worked for a minute then I could never get connected again. 2 of the 3 elevators were broken the whole time I was there (and from reading other reviews they've been broken since November). Service in both the restaurant and the bar was slooooow. The gym was small and the equipment was ancient, the pool was tiny. The hot water in my room was backwards and wouldn't shut off all the way. But the biggest disappointemt was the Dome Bar. Very cool architecture but it ended there. I asked the bartender what he had in an IPA and he said "What's that?" I don't expect every reader out there to know what an India Pale Ale is, but I do expect the bartender in a swanky bar to know. Worse, they didn't have any, and it isn't like it's an obscure style. The beer selection was as pedestrian as it gets: the closest thing to a craft brew they had was Fat Tire.

I spent $89 a night on this hotel and it was absolutely beautiful. The service was very fast and friendly, the bar was stunning and the live entertainment was wonderful. True, the rooms and hall ways lack a certain level of attention to detail in the maintenance and the gym was in disarray but jeez...I could have spent $200 a night and been pleased. This place is a true Gem, especially with the ethereal Plaza Theatre across the street, Cafe Central (the best meal I have ever eaten) across the other street, an art museum across yet the other street. You can stay here and not even wander 300 yards the whole weekend and have a blast. the pool is small but refreshing, heated when needed and always the perfect temperature. The food at the resturaunt (Azulejtos) was well worth the $$. Ask Edmundo at the bar to serve you up a few top shelf single malt scotches to put you in the perfect mood for the Dome Bar. I had no idea El Paso had anything like this at all to offer. I'll be back for sure.
