Conserving water and energy

I usually think of La Quinta Inns as being fairly nice hotels. However, I was very disappointed in this one. When I went to take a shower I had the water as far toward the Hot as it would go. The water was, at best, luke warm, it never did get hot. I thought perhaps the Hot and Cold were reversed so I moved it toward cold which produced freezing cold water. Had there been wash cloths on the towel rack that was barely clinging to the wall I would have taken a sponge bath in the sink, which did have hot water. But the only wash cloth was one which laid in a moldy basket that held the shampoo and soap. When I used the hairdryer to dry my hair and try to warm up a bit (so I wouldn't start to suffer from hypothermia) there was a very strong stench of burning hair that came from it. I started to look around to see if there were any smoke detectors close by that might be set off by the hair dryer. There were also a few ants in the bathroom.
The beds were decent, and the breakfast was nice. But I do wonder how much worse the motel next door could possibly be at half the price.
Upon check out we informed the front desk about the lack of hot water in the shower. We were offered no compensation. (Which having worked at a hotel before I would have expected.)
If we ever stay in Sweetwater again we do not plan on staying at La Quinta.
