Under construction - think twice before you book!!
By Lori, 3/18/12
The hotel is located in an excellent part of town and the grounds are beautiful, however, they are currently renovating the hotel and it is a mess. Upon arrival we were met with the overwhelming noise of jackhammers and all the staff could say was "sorry." We booked several weeks ago and felt the construction details should have been divulged. We were told the jackhammers would stop by 5:00 pm - they didn't stop until 9:00 pm. The construction crews also tied up all but 1 elevator, so it took forever to get into and/or out of our room. Parking is $23.95/day but around the corner you can park for $5.00. The parking lot is designated for "guests" only and has limited spaces but the hotel will open the lot to accommodate guests of any weddings they are conducting. As a result, you may not get a parking space. If you complain about this, the hotel will valet park your car but only if you complain. For the price, this hotel is not worth it. Most hotels provide their guests with free WiFi but Marriott Plaza charges $12.95 per night for computer service in your room. If you want free WiFi, it is only available in the lobby - with the jackhammers and good luck getting down there in a timely fashion with only one elevator operating! Overall, there are multiple hotels available along the river walk and next time I will choose another one instead of the Plaza.

Couldn't be any better!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/10
My husband and I just got back from the Marriott San Antonio Plaza hotel yesterday after a three night stay and I couldn't be any happier with the service, the grounds or anything else. Everyone was very helpful! Upon entering the hotel, the front desk manager was beyond helpful and friendly and continued to make our stay better and better throughout the week. The hotel is also very beautiful! I mean, you are 1/2 mile from the riverwalk but there is plenty to be seen just out at the Marriott property. Old, beautiful homes turned into exercise rooms or reception rooms, peacocks all over, beautiful trees....really just everything! Also, one day while in there we noticed that there were some kids in the room next to us. We have kids and love kids but during our ten year anniversary, we'd rather some adult peace and quiet. We called the front desk to see if they minded moving us and they were up there in less than 5 minutes to move us and apologizing to us! Honestly, I could go on and on. The front desk manager did a lot of wonderful things for us too and it was one of my favorite vacations! My husband and I usually go to Vegas when vacationing and we are used to being pretty pampered there but I think we might have started a new vacation tradition! Thank you so much Marriott!

This Hotel is a Lovely Oasis
By Colleen, 7/31/10
The peacocks, the pool, the vast majority of the staff, the burgers, the awesomely accommodating housekeeping staff and last but not least, the proximity to the Convention Center... I was there when you had thousands of visitors to your city and each time I went into the back area where the pool is located, I felt like I was miles away from the hustle and bustle of downtown S.A... It was so peaceful and pretty and the gazebo and the paths and gardens are simply beautiful... Thank you for making my trip memorable in a good way!!! The only reason I am giving 4 stars (not 5) for cleanliness is due to the pool area... That could have been maintained a lot better considering how many people were staying there... You provided clean towels but, the pool itself was a bit dirty and the chairs were dirty..Other than that, the hotel was very clean! The 4 stars for service is only due to one rather condescending lady at the front desk.. Perhaps she was having a bad day but everyone else (especially the housekeeping and restaurant staffs) were consistently professional, warm and helpful!)

Wonderful customer service skills
By michelle, 6/15/10
there were 3 ladies on our trip to just "get away" for a little bit. From teh second we pulled up to the moment we pulled out of the driveway we experienced the nicest, most pleasant people offering to help you with anything We had kept teh do not disturb sign on our room because we had so much luggage everywhere so housekeeping could not come in and replenish our towels and such. It took one little call to the front desk and someone was at the door with whatever we needed. When an employee assed you on the property they made you feel like you were old friends. Marriot you have out done yourselves with the quality of people you have employeed at this establishment. The view was stunning fromt he balcony in our room. This property was beautiful, friendly, felt safe and was in walking distance to the riverwalk for food and entertainment. This property was well the worth the money. I hate to have to pay so much for parking however i went to bed at night feeling like my vehicle was safe and that made it worth the parking fee. Not only will I recommend this hotel toothers I am looking forward to going back very soon.

In-room coffee pots have not coffee
By Nora, 1/13/10
Nice accomodations. However, don't let the coffeepot in the room lead you to believe you will get coffee first thing in the morning. We were there 3 nights and requested coffee packets for our in-room pot. NEVER HAPPENED. We finally received 2 packets of decaf and were told they were out of regular coffee.....not what you want to hear when you are trying to wake up on a cold morning in San Antonio. There is nothing like a caffene headache at a luxury hotel that promises all the extra amenities. Not the service I have grown to expect from Marriott.

Fabulous!
By Tana, 6/8/09
My husband and I did not have a reservation, but were given a great room quickly anyway. I wanted a smoking room and was informed none of their rooms were smoking, but the woman made sure we had a balcony room so we could smoke out there. I highly recomend the valet parking...the staff was so fast in bringing our car...even just so my husband could get something out he forgot! All of the staff went above and beyond to ask constantly if there was anything else they could do for us. The lounge area is fabulous! Super bartender with perfect drinks! The view from our room overlooked the Tower of the Americas and city skyline...it was beautiful! I would definately recommend it!

Are you certain of your reservation?
By R. Brasfield, 3/18/08
We used to stay at the Plaza and loved the cortyard view at the end of the hall w/ balcony in the morning - so peaceful, BUT last time we reserved the room 4 months in advance. When we arrived we were told that we could not have our room. A pro basketball team player liked our room and choose to stay, and the rest of the hotel was booked. We were offered a drink at the bar as compensation. We refused the offer. There are plenty of great hotel values in SA,, not this one. Their parking lot is great.

It could have been better...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/08
When my husband and I arrived we were in awe of the beauty of the hotel. Most of the employees did not seem very friendly...sort of snobby. When we checked in and made our way to our room we passed a room service tray with food on it sitting in the hallway. Four or five hours later we passed the same tray, with the same food, in the same spot on the floor. We also noticed several employees walked passed this food on the floor yet no one bothered to pick it up. My husband and I went to the bar/lounge where we found there was no bartender. It took several minutes to get someone there and there were several customers waiting. There was also a loud mouth sitting at the bar watching a ball game and literally screaming into his cell phone the whole hour we were at the bar. Numerous employees made comments to my husband and I and amongst themselves yet no one approached him and asked him to quiet down since he was disturbing other guests. So much for peace and quiet. My husband and I stayed there for two nights and the worst thing was there was no hot water. On the first night I tried to take a bath and found there was very little water pressure or hot water. The following morning when I went to shower I found there was absolutely no water pressure and no hot water. They seemed to have fixed the problem the second night of our stay but when I tried to shower the following morning again there was no hot water. Not very appealing for a five-star hotel. Overall, the hotel and grounds are nice. My husband and I liked the location since everything was in walking distance.

Nice Nice Nice
By Edrow, 6/26/07
Great hotel, Great location... No need to say anymore Pool has an awesome water fall type thing that the kids just loved, close to the river walk and the Alamo. Coffee was available for no charge in the lobby. Staff was helpful. Parking was on the expensive side.
