closed for renovations like the place shouldn't be displayed on the internet until jun 2006 when it will be officialy open to the public again.

Many of the rooms are way out of date and need a little repair here and there. Nellys bar is extremely bad smelling due to sewege backup 2004 dec. The hotel is going closing for renovations on 14 nov 05 until sometime in May 05 by Silverado Inc. Maybe then the rooms will up to snuff.

It was hard to see where all the renovation money went - maybe to fill the lobby with slot machines. This, a factor throughout Deadwood, almost ruined any ambiance the town had for us, non-gamblers. The room and bathroom were small but not too small, but decades of smoke still permeated everything even though our room was supposed to be a non-smoking room. The location is great but it can be a bit noisy as a result. The front desk, both in making reservations and while there, was somewhat lacking in customer service.

The motel was new so it was pretty clean. The bottom sheets on the bed were flat and only tucked in at the bottom, not the sides or the top. When you slept they were all over the place and it was very uncomfortable.

This might be a good place to stay if you want to experience what a room was like in the "Old West", but I prefer a larger room with all the modern amenities.

Deadwood is a step back into time; the Franklin is too; it's a great place to stay because it's right on the main street of Deadwood. It's not a luxury hotel, but it's an early 1900's hotel that is beautifully restored - you'll spend hours in the hotel alone looking at the architecture and learning about the history of the hotel. The staff was very courteous spending time with us to talk about the history of the hotel. The rooms are small, but right in line with history - the old light switches still work! The original wood floors even creak! I would definitely recommend the Franklin if you want to experience the atmosphere of Deadwood and the Old West. The food is great too.

A true classic. Excellent food in the restaurant, and nice casino. We love staying there at every opportunity.
