Always a great stay at the Franklin in Deadwood!
By Stephanie, 10/20/11
We go to the Black Hills two or three times a year and always book our stay at the Franklin. It is a part of the real history of the area and the restoration of the building thus far is fantastic! Our rooms have always been clean and the staff very attentive. Front desk clerks not only give us speedy check-in but someone is always there to assist us with our luggage, dinner reservations and suggestions on places to see in the Black Hills area. During our August stay this year, the hotel did experience a problem with hot water but management was very apologetic and assured us the problem was being taken of - and it was! We have never been met with rudeness nor indifference at the Franklin and therefore, it will ALWAYS be our hotel destination!

Should have stayed on the bus!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/11
My husband, my son & I were on a bus tour that arranged for the tour group to stay overnight. We loved the town & the look of the hotel. That's where the love stopped. Our room had 2 beds , a small bathroom, & wasps! My husband killed 1 on the wall & my son killed one that decided to take a shower with him. We looked to see where they might be getting in & found holes around the window ac unit. There were also lots of dead ones under the beds. Apparently vaccuming doesn't include under the beds. I called the front desk & she said, "Yeah, they get in sometimes". My husband went downstairs & got us a new room which still had live bugs, but no wasps. Again they were getting in around the window ac. Oh, our 2nd room was the Kevin Costner suite. The rooms need to be stripped, fumigated, & redone. Keeping the furniture would be the only thing worth saving . Hope the next guests that stay there aren't allergic to wasps & don't get stung. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone!

Actually it was 2000
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/10/11
I loved it. Sorry to hear it has seemed to decline! We stayed in the Buffalo Bill room. Loved the history of the place and we had no problems. Great view from the room. Yeah, it was old, but clean back then. I've always wanted to go back.

I Stayed there 3 times while on Skiing Vacations
By ,,,,, 6/13/10
I loved the 1880's appeal. Of course it may not have been changed much since the 1880's. I do believe there are 2 separate units. One being the Old Franklin and the other being a more Modern unit. They claim there are Historic passages off limits to the public. It was a decent place to stay when we were there.1996

Everyone Hates a cold Shower
By Brad R, 2/15/10
Stayed here on Friday Feb. 12th. Thge walls must be paper thin because our neighbors had the TV on at 6 AM and we could tell what they were watching, not to mention what our neighbors were saying. Tried to shower, but the water was cold. Complained to the front desk staff and they didn't seem to care.

NEVER GO BACK EVER!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/28/09
Historic means old, unkempt, shabby, and gross. This place is such a dump. Service is awful and the rooms - what a dump!!!! We stayed at a hotel the night before in Denver and that place was so much better than this hotel. The rooms and carpet are dirty, the beds are filthy, the roof was peeling and bowed (felt unsafe, that it would collapse on us), and the bathrooms were disgusting. The bathroom was large enough to accommodate a shower, sink, and toilet, but they somehow designed it so that all 3 were right in the middle of the room leaving huge gaps on the side. The towels were so dirty, like they were never washed after someone used them. And there was no hot water at all and the bathtub wasn't draining so the water stayed in the tub. In the night, a front desk worker knocked on the door so loudly that he woke us up when we were sleeping just to ask if the shower was leaking. He said there was a leaking problem downstairs. We stayed at a non-smoking room, but it still stank so it must have been a smoking room at one time and they just never bothered cleaning it. The experience was awful, I would never recommend it to others, and it was not worth the time/money. We are never going back to this hotel. Grossest hotel ever.
