Description

Centrally located in the Black Hills, three miles to Custer State Park, eighteen miles to Mount Rushmore, four miles to Crazy Horse Mountain, and adjacent to Flintstone Village. Custer has a population of 1,741 and is the oldest city in the Black Hills. We have a museum in the old courthouse telling of our history. The elevation of our city is the highest in the Black Hills at 5,318 feet. We have wonderful evening music shows and quality attractions. The George S. Mickelson Trail running through Custer and trails in Custer State Park offer biking and hiking opportunities. Nearby lakes offer swimming, boating, and picnicking. The summer weather in the Black Hills area is sunny, warm and dry. Daytime temperatures climb into the 70s and 80s and sometimes the 90s. Early mornings are cool. Humidity levels are low, so even the hottest days are comfortable. Sporadic thunderstorms over the Black Hills in the afternoon and evenings are frequent and usually brief. The hottest month is July with an average temperature of 73 degrees. Average annual rainfall is 18.07 inches and 38 inches of snow.

Excellent stay
By Scott, 8/21/09
A very high level of service from all the staff here--front desk, housekeeping, and especially the "breakfast lady". This motel makes a great base for your explorations of the central and southern Black Hills. Standard amenities, everything was clean and well-tended. Nothing special on-site for kids, though. Restaurant choices in Custer a bit limited, and even the Dairy Queen closes down at 9 pm! One general comment to all hotels in the digital age--we need MORE OUTLETS--especially easily accessible ones! With 3 cell phones and 2 laptops in our party, we ended up unplugging lamps to keep everything carged overnight.

Just OK
By Susan, 8/7/07
Perhaps the fact that it was an unseasonable 99 degrees may have affected our stay. The room seemed musty, the air conditioner was very loud. I understand they do not usually need air, so perhaps I am expecting too much. The ice machines were not working and very little in the vending pop machines. Although I made the reservations months ago, I was in one of the only three rooms over the entry roof and you could not sit outside.

Terrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/2/07
We were put in a musty room, told we could only move if we paid $50 more because we had received the manager special and then told if we checked out it would cost $50. Very unpleasant and would avoid ever going back.

Loved it!
By L.T., 6/21/07
I liked this place from the moment we walked in. Staff was helpful and friendly. Room was very large (2 queens and pull-out love seat, fridge and microwave) and clean. Nice and quiet. Great location. Close to food, mini-golf, gas, etc; The only things that I didn't like was that we had to walk outside the building to get to the indoor pool in another part, the shower heads were weird (small streams going everywhere not hitting the body), and the breakfast nook was too small. each morning we had to go get breakfast and bring it back to our rooms because there was no place to sit. Best breakfast on this trip though! All staff were great!

Big Amenities in a Small Hotel
By reality_chick, 6/1/05
Buffalo Ridge didn't look like much when we arrived, but our room was great. It had just been remodeled -- new tile, paint & carpet -- so it was super clean and in great condition. The King Size bed was really comfortable, so slept great. Continental Breakfast went beyond the typical with fresh fruit and hot, freshly made waffles. The restaurants immediately in front of the hotel served up great Prime Rib and a full breakfast. Towels could have been a bit newer and fluffier...but, honestly, we had no complaints. Room also has coffee maker & iron/ironing board, so it was really convenient. We would definitely stay again.

Good Time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/12/04
We were in both a one room suite and a two room suite. Both were just fine. The hotel is not new but it is in good shape and the rooms fit our needs. The pool was large enough to swim in as well.
