updated hotel

We stayed at Hotel Blue the 3rd week in Aug. We had a Ocean Front Room on the 3rd floor. When checking in the staff was OK, not overly friendly but not rude. They would not allow us to check in until 3:00pm, but it wasn't a problem because we walked around until the room was ready. When we went up to our room, our room number was missing but no big deal we just placed a posted note on the door with the number. The room was very clean, NO BLACK FEET as noted in other reviews. We had new tile floors, new window treatments, new bedding, and updated bath. We had no kitchen but who cooks on vacation any way. The air condition worked great, my husband likes to keep it around 67. The view was great, no problems with the door. The room had a safe to place your items. I was able to use the internet to get some work done with no charges. The cleaning staff was great, they supplied towels, cleaned the tile, bath, etc. They even got us a new ironing board (out of the plastic) because our room didn't have one. We didn't use the elevators because it was faster to walk down and up 3 flights of stairs to get to the beach.
The pool was packed, I actually watched people go down to the pool around 8:00am to place their towels on chairs to SAVE their seats, even though the cleaning crew wasn't done. The pool bar wasn't packed, always a seat but I didn't see it staffed all the time. The water fall over the pool bar, as shown on the website wasn't on the whole time I was there, but maybe it isn't designed to work that way. Also getting into and out of the pools are very easy, 2 steps, no ladders. The children really did look like they were having fun in the pool. The indoor lazy river was ok, it didn't look GREEN, like other reviews. One bad thing was that there was no indoor pool. Also pool is opened very late so you would hear children playing at night while you were in your room.
The beach was the best place to go! We rented an Umbrella and Chairs from the lifeguard for 5 days. The rates are 25 to 30 dollars per day or you can rent it for 5 days for 100 dollars. It was worth the money. They are set up around 9:00am until 4:30pm. They will place your name on the chairs to hold your spot.
The snack bar was open every morning and afternoon. I thought it was overpriced but it is there. Also on each floor there are ice makers but ours didn't work. So we would go up to the 5th floor and use the main one to fill up coolers etc.
At night time the views are great. The hotel next door SEA CREST had a bar/ karaoke until 11 or 12 each night. It was very loud at times and we were on the other side of the building, but it was funny to hear some people sing. They also set fire works off every WED night around 9:00 at pier.
The parking garage was ok, is very tight, I would not recommend bringing a BIG SUV/TRUCK, a smaller SUV is ok. The great thing of having the parking garage hooked onto the hotel is that we could park on the 3rd floor and then walk straight to our room. We didn't even have to use a cart to bring in our stuff.
Overall this hotel was GREAT, we are use to staying at Crown Reef every year spending 1200.00 for 1 week and here we only spent 600.00 for 1 week. We even thought the room was better than Crown Reef. One bad thing was the lack of pools. They will allow you to use sister hotels pools, but it is 2 hotels down. Its location was great, very close to everything. I would recommend this hotel again but I would only stay in the ocean front rooms, because the ocean view rooms do not look like they have been updated, I was able to look in a room while going out to the parking garage. The ocean view rooms, have carpet, old bedding, and look very very old. I also would not recommend this hotel for light sleepers who go to bed before 9:00pm because noise from the hotel next door and the people in the pool/hot tubs at night.
