5 reviews for Planters Inn, Charleston
Great staff!
By John C, 12/04/09
I liked the professional service provided by hotel staff. When we arrived, the battery in our car failed and one of the staff drove us to get a replacement. For the same price, our three day reservation was converted to a special vacation package that included free tickets to Fort Sumter, the Aquarium, the Nathanial Russell House, and a Carriage Tour. The hotel personal were very courteous, I could not have asked for more. I would return and highly recommend the hotel. I was dissappointed with the Pennisula Grill however because it was noisy and expensive for what we received, and the waiters acted more like those I would see at TGIF's or Applebee's. They kept pestering us during the meal when all I wanted was quiet place to enjoy an elegant meal. For the price we paid, I expected the waiters to be better trained and more professional. They should read the recently published article in the NY Times about how waiters should treat their patrons. There are better restaurants in Charleston at half the price.

Nice Rooms
By nick, 02/04/08
We made our resevation for a plantation king suite, when we arrived we were put in a regular room and the plantaion suite comes with fireplace over sized room with living area and bath with jaccuzi tub and seperate shower and wet bar. Well the regular rooms have none of this and i did call down stairs and complained and as they said they would upgrade me for no extra charge. What we got was what we ordered and payed for. The Penninsula grill was awful. The fish was way over cooked and tough while the sauces on the duck had no flavor would not go there again . Go to magnolias on east bay. The room was very nice and the people are very helpful and courtious.I would stay there again.

Absolutely Amazing!
By Erin, 07/15/05
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Plantes Inn, in a Kings Deluxe room that was so beautiful and very spacious. It capture the Charleston charm I wanted with a king four poster bed with a canopy. It was very clean, it had beautiful decor and a nice sitting area with a window that overlooked the courtyard which so relaxing and beautiful. If you stay at the planters inn, you have to stay in one of the rooms with the courtyard. My boyfriend and I sat in the courtyard and drank wine one night for an hour and then just walked right into our room. The favorite thing about the room was the whirlpool tub in the bathroom. So romantic and so big! I loved it. The rest of the hotel was beautifully decorated as well and luxerious too. The service at the hotel was wonderful, one of the best attributes. Bo and Jeffrey were wonderful attendants and we never had one problem. Whenever we needed anything is was delievered to our room very promptly. The location of Planters Inn is definately something to brag about. We never had to drive anywhere as we were in the center of it all, right next to a ton of resturants and the market. When staying in charleston, location is important because it is hard to drive anywhere so you want to be able to walk. I walked around Charleston and saw where the other hotels were located, and Planters Inn definately has the best location! We also had dinner at the Pensuila Grill. It was very romantic and one of the best meals my boyfriend has ever had, and the wine was the best I have ever tasted. It was expensive, but worth everypenny. Our waitor was very attentive, knowledgeable and nice. He was the one that recommended the amazing wine! I can't rave enough about this hotel. This was by far the best hotel my boyfriend and I have stayed at. I was very weary about staying here because of some of the reviews but it exceded by expecations by far! Some people complain about the noise in Charleston but I never heard a thing in the room! I would stay here again in a heartbeat, and I plan on it! To sum it up, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!!!

Upscale and convenient
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/05/05
I stayed here once and found it to be very convenient to most all of the tourism sights. It has upscale, old world charm and modern features combined. The beds had traditional hand woven canopies. Bathroom was a long and spacious hallway style room with marble flooring and luxiourous fluffy white bathrobes. One little cleanliness mishap was left by the guests before, but aside from that, it was a very nice stay and excellent top rate service. P.S. We got a really good deal by stopping by the Visitors Center in person. The staff member called around to get the best rates for us. The hotels and B&B's discount signifgantly when they aren't at full capacity...but they are last minute vacancies. I highly recommend going that route if you can deal without firm plans until you get there. Many of the B&B's are quite charming! The Planters Inn is not a B&B.

location location location
By RichardB, 06/04/05
We have stayed at the Planters Inn several times over the last 8 years. You can't beat the location. The rooms are big and well appointed. I like the rooms in the old building better than the new wing. The food at their restaurant is great but its a little to stuffy for my taste. Mistrails Restaurant across the street is a great place to dine. Planters Inn is very clean and the staff is very helpful. I have stayed at several other Charleston hotels but we always wind up coming back to Planters Inn.
