Staff Unprofessional
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/11
We had a problem with our reservation that was in my opinion the fault of the hotel. They did not agree, however, we attempted to resolve the issue in a polite and respectful manner. The hotel staff on the other hand, refused to handle the situation promptly and over the course of a four day weekend referred us to multiple people, lied through their teeth, and pretty much made getting a solution to the problem as inconvenient for us as possible. By the end of the process our disatisfaction with our stay was not because of the discrepancy in the bill, but the behvior of the management on duty. The hotel management begrudgingly acknowledged that things could have been handled much better from their end, but at the end of the day did not offer much in the way of an apology. A simply "I'm Sorry" from them would have gone a long ways towards making things right.

Awesome Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/16/11
The motel staff were amazing. I checked in for 4 nights. I had orginally planned to stay only 3 nights and was told that I would have to trade rooms on the last night. The staff were able to fix my reservation so that we could keep the same ocean front room for all four nights. I was very pleased-- one night I wanted icecream and the icecream shop was closed. The server, opened the shop and scooped up two icecreams with a smile. The trip was amazing- hotel staff very accomodating and rooms very clean, would never know that pets were allowed.

Wouldn't return if you paid me!
By Emma, 7/10/10
Staff is very rude.  We booked an ocean view room, but when we arrived, we were told with a smirk that no, we had the city view.  No appologies.  No manners.  Second, the next morning I was told by the hostess that I could not sit by the window of the empty in-hotel restaurant for a cup of coffee.  I had to buy breakfast.  And on several occasions when I was asking a question of the people behind the front desk (different people each time -- who do not apparently know this area!), they would abruptly turn away to speak to another employee about something else or answer the phone without an excuse me or any acknowledgement that I had been speaking at all.  If something like this happens once, I can understand that stuff happens, but they were very consistent -- the customer isn't just always wrong, but an absolute annoyance. Unbelievable.  We will never again stay at this hotel, and perhaps never another Holiday Inn if this is their notion of hospitality.  Nothing like rude staff to ruin an otherwise pleasant vacation.

Will return a third time! !
By Larry, 12/2/08
We spent the Thanksgiving holiday weekend at the Inn, arriving around noon on Thanksgiving day. Amanda at the front desk greeted us and made us feel very welcome. We asked about getting a sandwich and were told that the Thanksgiving dinner buffet was in progress. The Food and Beverage Manager overheard our request and said "No problem". She called back to the kitchen and in short order we had two ham and cheese sandwiches. She asked if we were going to enjoy the buffet later and we explained that friends had made other plans for dinner. She suggested that we take a peek at the buffet before commiting to another dining spot. Our friends met us at the hotel and we decided to return to the Inn later for dinner. The highlight of the dinner was the serving personnel. Buffet dinners can be rather mundane but the staff was very upbeat and made the meal a very enjoyable time. It was after 4:00 PM and the staff had to be tired and ready to go home to their loved ones, but they still made the guests feel very welcome. They should all be commended. We think the hotel has been spruced up a little since our last visit several years ago and every thing was neat and clean. We are seniors and appreciate being a little off the beaten path, but yet close enough to the Strand to have a little fun. We also like to save a few dollars too. We will be back.

Pet Friendly
By Dianna, 8/23/08
I liked the fact that this was a very clean hotel and the staff was friendly and helpful. The pool was clean but small. Beach access was great. I disliked the noise level of the air conditioner and dehumidifier in the room, which made it hard to sleep.

Will be back next YEAR!
By Heather, 7/3/08
I, my Husband, and 2 year old son stayed from May 19-26. We had an absolute wonderful time. I loved the location! We've typically always stayed at Pawley's Island which is wonderful and very family oriented as well but if you want to go and see the attractions at Myrtle..it's a bit of a drive. This place was just far enough away from fast paced Myrtle but just close enough to be able to go and enjoy all the fun things it has to offer:) From the minute I arrived, I was very pleased, I have a little OCD:P so I like things very clean and this place met up to my expectations wonderfully! Also the staff were very kind and polite..The rooms were beautiful and it was an excellent bang for your buck$! Overall it was a wonderful atmosphere that left me feeling refreshed which everyone needs from a vacation! I will definitely be coming back next year for our annual family vacation! and maybe for all of them!

We are already planning our next trip!
By Rebecca, 6/1/08
This was our second trip to Myrtle Beach, first time at the Holiday Inn Surfside. We loved it. The front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had a beautiful room with an ocean/pool view. We ordered room service once for breakfast. Good food, a tad bit expensive but not completely unreasonable. The access to the beach and pool was very easy. They had beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach that you could rent for the day for $30. Very easy to do at the front desk. The beach was beautiful. There are life guards on duty most of the time which was reassuring. While hanging out by the pool we had live music. My son loved that. Loved the Tiki bar by the pool also. We really enjoyed this hotel. Rooms were clean and had ample space. Refrigerator and microwave in the room, which was really nice since we were traveling with a child. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the Myrtle Beach area.

Never Again!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/12/08
The Chef does not wash his hands. The "fine dining waitstaff" looked like the 4 A.M. shift from the Memphis Waffle House. The smell in the hotel could make you fall over.

A really nifty place to spend a long weekend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/07
Our military unit, the 5th RCT Association, holds its mini reunion at the Surfside Holiday every year. Unlike many of the other commercial inns, our group is made to feel welcome there. I can strongly recommend this lovely hotel to any similar group: after all, you get to fly your unit's flag from the HI flagpole. The staff is friendly and goes out of its way to help. No illegal immigrants seen in the past 10 years or so. God bless America !

Will Not Stay Here Again
By P, 7/31/07
This was a TERRIBLE value for the money we spent. We requested adjoining rooms far in advance, and when we got there were told none were available, and they would not move us the next day as other rooms were vacated, so our group got separated. The "full service" restaurant was closed for lunch, and barely operative for dinner-you got the impression they really didn't want anyone to eat there, and room service was a joke. As someone mentioned, for a "family" hotel, there was no kiddie pool and the bars on the sliding doors to the balcony were not secure, and the doors don't lock-so if your kid can lift up the bar, which isn't latched, he or she can get out onto the balcony. The clothes dryer, which was broken three weeks ago when a relative stayed there, was still broken, again a great inconvenience for families. When the front desk was informed, they could not have cared less, although that was the attitude we encountered from most of the front desk and food service staff. A lot of our vacation time was wasted running around looking for outside laundrymats, outside restaurants for lunch and dinner, and running around keeping our group together. The dehumidifier smelled awful and was loud, the a/c unit was so loud it was hard to sleep, watch TV, or talk with it on. The sink stopped up in one room, and the faucet didn't run properly in the other. I will give 5+stars to the cleaning/maintenance staff though-they were very courteous, friendly, and accomodating. Our rooms were immaculately clean and we always had plenty of towels. I have stayed at Holiday Inns in other areas and was very satisfied, but not here. I advise anyone looking to stay in Myrtle Beach to shop around, you can get much better rates and better accomodations elsewhere, and closer to the main attractions. If you do want to stay there, stop at a supermarket on the way for groceries, (but keep in mind the tables in the rooms are too small for more than two people to sit at, and there's only two chairs anyway, so someone has to eat in bed or on the floor), bring plenty of extra clothes because you won't be able to do your laundry, and bring something to secure those sliding balcony doors if you have little ones or sleepwalkers.
