Good place, needs help
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/27/09
We've taken our kids to Edisto (Wyndam) for three years now. We had a great condo in the Villiages which is outside of the main resort. Nice pool in our backyard but it was overcrowded b/c the main pool was broken for at least 3 days we were there. We had a phone call each day from the concierge who tried to cajole us into coming to one of their "seminars" (time share deals) and each time, we said no. Way too bothersome there. Oh...kids activities are offered, but not enough and not really much for the younger set (under 6). All in all a great place, but this year I wasn't as pleased. But we'll go again next year. :)

America's Best Kept Secret
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/09
Edisto Island is wonderful if you love a quiet place to go to the beach. The Wyndam was great. Very clean and the service was excellent. We did not see one bug the entire time. We were in Marsh Pointe, right by the sound which was across the street. The beach was just a few blocks down and we rode our bikes to everything. Our kids played putt-putt golf at the main resort area. The area was fixed up and not run down like I had read in other posts. My boys loved it. We definitely can't wait to go back and have started looking in to booking for next year. This is not the place to come to if you want a Walmart or many places to shop. There is very little commericialism in Edisto. I guess that is why we loved it so much. If you want the glitz and glamour go to Myrtle Beach.

Very relaxing; no traffic, crowd, noise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/24/08
My husband and I have been in this resort at least 4 times and stayed at the villages in 2 bedroom units; the last time was in a 1 bedroom unit. The only thing I did not like about the 1 bedroom unit is the couch is old and damaged, I wonder how often they inspect those units. There was also cobwebs surrounding the outside lights. We attended one of their weekend parties, that was a 5 star party. Food, gifts, the villa, and the staff was the best. I have made another reservation there this year.

Bring a Book
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/09/08
Edisto is a very relaxing place to visit. I have been to Wyndham Ocean Ridge 4 times over the past 7 years and have another trip planned there for this year. PROS: Relaxation at it's finest. The pace at edisto is about that of the Sea Turtles that nest there. There are no crowds, no lines, no noise, no stress. The scenery is beautiful from watching dolphins play every day in the bay to hunting for aligators and blue heron in the lagoons - taking a trip down a road in the middle of nowhere under a canopy of Live Oak - you will feel at peace. Savannah and Charleston are both wonderful day trips with LOTS to see and do. The golf course is gorgeous. Lots of seashells on the beaches. CONS: There are few opportunities for entertainment. Night life is nonexistent. I was not looking for either EVERY night - but it would be nice if there was at least 1 option or a place to catch a movie on a cloudy day - there are NONE. There are few places to visit or activities to join in nearby. Off season is REALLY off season with many of the already few establishments closed. The resort is in dire need of an upgrade - many items in disrepair - few amenities to speak of. I'm surprised more celebrities don't visit because here unlike any other ocean community - you are truly "away from it all" and can have your own private beach with anonimity. The pieces are there to make it a FABULOUS location, without sacrificing it's charm, and grace - it should be a sanctuary, a haven..and the overall appeal due to the lack of amenities and lack of upgrades makes the location seem almost somber and desolate. I left feeling disappointed because it is somehow a gem that has been left unpolished - it could have been so MUCH MORE...while retaining its quiet nature. Bring a book and some crossword puzzles because you will be nose deep 1/2 of your vacation. Lots of restaurants...have breakfast at the Sea Cow out on the deck...casual. Buy food/beverages at Piggly Wiggly for the duration of your stay on the first day because you will eat in often. There is a great place on the main drag as you are exiting the island on the right hand side (might be called Main's Market?) with great home cooked southern food to go... great ribs, VERY friendly staff. If the Old Post Office is open it has fine dining that is worth a trip out with an adorable gift shop on the premesis for quality souveniers. Lots of unique gift shops. Rent bikes. Mini golf course would be so cute if they would invest just $200 to repair and clean it up. Pools are nice - can always find a chair available. STAY ON THE WATER - either lagoon front or the bay to watch aligators/dolphins/birds while you relax and have dinner on the lanai sipping wine or iced tea. Relax..destress. We had a blast playing with a cheap plastic bocce set with the kids on the sandy beach. If you want commercial - try Disney or Myrtle Beach. Wyndham: "I emplore you... Please invest some money back into your properties and modernize the amenities. Put in new carpeting. Spray for Palmetto Bugs. Purchase DVD players in the rooms. Buy new furniture. Offer more craft activites for kids. Clean up the mini golf course. You are wasting an incredible opportunity."

Loved it so much I cried when I had to leave
By Paula P, 11/28/07
I loved the Island and the layed back atmosphere I would wake about 6:30am and I could see the dolphins from my window. Our two bedroom unit was in the Bay Point area. Close to the beach for morning and evening walks. Best place I have ever vacationed and will be back.

Ocean Ridge Resort, Edisto Island
By Tracy, 09/12/07
If you are looking for a place to relax. Ocean Ridge Resort in Edisto Island is the place to be. It is quiet and nestled right on the beach. The location was great. Beautiful views from your patio or balcony. The unit was very spacious and clean. I was very pleased with the service, however, I was a litle disappointed on the distance from the check in and where the actual resort was located. You will need a car to get around on the resort. There is nothing that is within walking distance because everything is spread out from the location of the main resort. There are three pools located on the resort but they were very far from where we were staying so we had to pack up the car and drive to the pool. They offer a very nice recreation facility where you rent bikes or play putt putt golf. There is also a very nice playground located near the main pool for smaller children. Overall, my experience was pleasant. It's a great place to unwind for a mini getaway.

Carefree!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/11/07
This was our first time to visit Edisto Island and we loved it. We had our 5 year old grandon with us and we had the time of our lives! We were stayed in the Villages and it was wonderful. Clean, spacious, and a well thought out floor plan that made our 5 day visit wonderful. Our unit overlooked one of the pools and was a perfect place to set out on the little deck and enjoy the view. Our unit had everything you could possibly need to use in a kitchen. There were a number of local own eating places, but we chose to make our meals most of the time. With the grocery store on the island it made that easy also. We were able to picnic or just all sit down together and enjoy a quiet meal without the phone ringing or someone knocking at our door. Our first day there we rented 3 bikes for the week. What fun! There are bike trails all over the Island and we were able to ride them everywhere. From our unit to Cabana Beach took us 15 minutes. And that was going pretty slow due to the fact we had our grandson with us. But if you prefer you can take a shuttle to the beach, which is still no problem. There is plenty to do, even if you don't golf (like us). We spent a lot of time wathcing the dolphins feed in the bay, building sand castles, flying kites, collecting seashells and just soaking in the sun. There are little lakes or ponds along the golf course and/or bike trails and we would just stop and watch the fish jumping out of the water. Hey, it was vacation! A time to stop and smell the roses! Or the other beautiful flowers, birds and trees we saw. If you want neon lights, swim up bars and rock bands this may not be the place for you. We met several families while at the pool and many of them were returning for the 4, 5th or 6th time. One lady said they had been coming there for over 20 years. We did take a day and drive to Charleston and it was a only about a 45 minutes drive. So if you have to have malls, traffic, stop lights, etc.. you don't have to really go that far. Or you can go to Walterboro, which is about the same distance the opposite direction. It is a nice town with about everything you might need too. I read all kinds of reviews before we left on our trip to Edisto and I was beginning to feel pretty negative. But the reviews that I read did not do the Island justice. Or either they had something totally different in mind. You are not going to find a bunch of chain stores, but just locals who take pride in there businesses. The only chain stores we saw were Piggley Wiggley, TCBY and Subway. The last two were connected to a gas station. As you can tell from this review we had a great relaxing time and if you are looking for a place to get away from it all you will enjoy Edisto Island!

RESTFUL
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/15/07
Loved the quiet, lazy feeling that I got when I was at Fairfield Ocean Ridge. Our two bedroom condo was in a good location near the bay. We walked the beach and found lots of wonderful shells--have never found anywhere else. Loved it!

Great Place For Rest and Relaxation
By TravelPro, 09/06/05
If you want a place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Edisto Island is the place to be. Located along the east coast between Charleston, SC and Hilton Head Island, it's one of the last remaining coastal retreats that give you a sense of your own private beach. If you're looking for a place to relax and rejuvenate the soul, this Island is the place to spend a week of relaxation. Until recently the only shopping on the Island was the local Piggly Wiggly, which is still the main grocery mart on the Island. There have been some additions to some specialty shops scattered along Jungle Road, just a block inside the main drag along the shore. If you're not looking for much to do, but walking along the beach, riding bikes along bike path, and maybe a round or two of golf, this is the place to be. The vacation homes are mixed between those that look like they've been there since the 1940's and some immaculate vacation homes that have been expanded and renovated into 4000 square foot mansions. Located next to a State Park, the majority of the beach is quite secluded and private to enjoy a day of fun in the sun. Regular visits from dolphins feeding at 6am, noon, and again at 7pm just a few yards from the coast line make for a fascinating view of how nature can still be found along a crowded coast line. This Island is also a reserve for sea turtles that lay their eggs in the grasses located just off the beach from May thru October each year. Fairfield Resorts offer some of their condos to stay on the island which are new and very clean. We have an awesome 3 story condo that slept 14 to accommodate our entire extended family. If you're looking to contact the outside world however, don't count on it. Cell service can only be made along the beach, with both Sprint and Verizon plans. Internet access was also non existent with the exception of one local coffee bar who charged a weekly fee for unlimited service. Several of us tried dial-up service to no avail to get e-mail. A great week of much needed rest and relaxation!
