GROSS!
By JKM, 4/2/12
Pros...Nice People...that is all it had going for it... Cons...looked nothing like the pictures online, you did have to climb stairs but it is an old house, the room was NOT clean the floor had trash on it and my husband stepped on what to appeared to be dried up piece of food, the bathtub drain had so much hair in it that the water would not drain out at all because it was gunked up and disgusting (it had been there a while and the tub didn't appear to be much cleaner), and the bed was very hard and bouncy. We left within 15 minutes of arriving to go to a real hotel that actually cleaned their rooms with a much pleasurable stay.

Great Inn, Friendly Staff!
By Cheryl, 10/26/08
My girlfriend and I stayed in room 9 which has 2 double beds for four nights. We were able to drop off our bags early morning having arrived by train. If the room hadn't been used the night before the innkeeper, Patty, would have let us check in early. The inn is quite charming. We had sherry and freshly baked cookies complements of the Inn in the afternoon with the other guests. The friendly atmosphere of the inn was contagious...two other couples joined us for dinner the first night we were there. We were allowed to use the refrigerator to keep our wine and cheese we brought with us as well as wine glasses and other kitchenware. The breakfast was great: fresh fruit, croissants, pastries, bagels, cereal, and home made pumpkin bread through the 4 days we were there. You had a choice of eating in your room, the parlor, or outside on the porch and could choose the time you wanted to eat. Patty and all of the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful, especially Rachel and Emily. The room was clean and very cute, and when we came back in the evening the beds were turned down with a piece of chocolate next to the pillow. We had wi-fi and cable tv. We made new friends there and they all loved the inn too. One of the nicest experiences I have had at a B&B. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Last Minute
By Nicole, 2/5/06
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Barksdale house on a last minute choice. He is from Nevada and never seen the east coast. So I showed him the best part of it, Charleston. We had no reservations and did NOT want to stay at a God awful hotel. So we made reservations at the vistors center and stayed there. The service was fantastic and so was the rooms. Breakfast was awesome and the price was cheaper than a hotel!! Highly recommend!!

We are going back this month
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/12/05
We stayed at the Barksdale Inn twice and loved it both times. The atmosphere is great. You feel like you are going back in time to the period when the Barksdales lived there. We stayed in three different rooms and love them all. It is close to town. We walked to town every day and some nights. It is in a safe location and quiet. The breakfast is also very good. We are returning in a week we like it so much.

nice place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/5/05
We came across the Barksdale House after learning all of our first choices were booked due to a convention in town the weekend we wanted to visit. The price was reasonable, the location was close to where we wanted to be so we decided to take a chance and book it. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating, the room clean, spacious, well decorated and it included a hot tub. Breakfast on the porch was very nice as was breakfast in bed the following morning. We missed the early afternoon "brandy and biscuits" but heard from others that it was nice. Parking was a little tight but welcome to downtown Charleston!! You may find more posh accommodations and more one on one service but you won't find more value for your dollar than the Barksdale House. We'll be back.

Fairly Priced.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/22/05
Charming and the staff is nice. Romantic fireplaces in many rooms. Bordered by parking lots and college buildings. I believe the price reflects this fairly. Very close to King Street shops and easy to walk everywhere from here. Some rooms have better mattresses than others.

My husband and I got engaged there several years ago. Beautiful home and gardens. Very romantic. And in the heart of downtown Charleston. Would love to go back.
