Beautiful, charming experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/31/09
I am not sure what all the complaints are about. Our room was fantastic, not small at as others complained about, and it was very clean. The staff was friendly, polite and helpful at all times. McCormick and Schmick's is a wonderful experience too. We would definitely come back again

If Expectations Are Low, This Is The Hotel For You
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/20/09
obviously, don't be deceived thinking this is part of the real "Biltmore" hotels. They say this is historical, yes -- they say millions in renovations -- wow,,,,,who pocketed the money? The rooms are old and small even though they list as "suites". The bathrooms -- I couldn't deal with them; very old and very used -- the type that may be clean (maybe), yet look like they haven't been cleaned in years. This is not upscale, this is not classy. If I wouldn't have lost my money, I would have left.

Beautiful!!!!
By Camden O, 5/4/08
Has wonderful architecture from the 1920's and has so much history!!! The renovations done on this hotel has turned it in to a modern hotel, but it still retains alot of it's past beauty.

Almost great... but yes, it IS old
As so many have said: yes, it is an old hotel. I expected a bit more style and luxury, for a top rated hotel (the furnishings were a bit scratched, the bathroom was quite small), but it is a nearly century-old building. One cannot expect perfection. I did find the staff to be quite friendly, the bellman and valets to be pleasant and prompt. I stayed for 2 nights, and ran into the housekeeping service person, who was also quite friendly. Though, I gave the "cleanliness" rating a low mark, because after the first night, she obviously made the bed and straightened the towels, but even though I followed the "green clean" request to put towels that needed to be replaced on the floor, she did not do so, and I was left with one small towel for my shower the next day, the drinking glasses were not refreshd/replaced, the ice bucket was left with a puddle of water in it, and the toilet tissue was left with a near empty roll. Perhaps part of their "green" plan is to be more frugal with such items, but it seemed a bit stingy to me (I can see not washing the sheets after one night, but a soaked wet towel on the floor should be replaced, as should toothpaste soiled plastic cups). Location wise the place is ideal: I was on a shoe-string budget for food/fun (the cost of the hotel was paid by my employer), and there were many options within walking distance of the hotel. I would, however, have liked at least ONE other option for dining within the hotel, besides the seafood restaurant. It was not so much the price (though was part of it), but as a solo traveler, dining in a sit-down white tablecloth establishment is not always the most fun, and something a bit more casual that did not require me to exit the premises alone, after dark, might have been nice (tip: if you are traveling alone, and dont like dining alone in a white-tablecloth restaurant, you will have to leave the site on foot to find ANY thing other than coffee). Lastly, as some that posted have mentioned, the price for valet service is a bit high. As an out of towner that had arrived by vehicle, I had no choice but to park, and to relegate hotel guests to either paying over $50 for 2 days ($24 a day, plus a tip or two if you take the car out), or trekking a distance from some sort of pay lot: seems a bit ridiculous (though is offset, a bit, by the room price as compared to most of the other nicer downtown hotels...I just think that, for guests, the hotel could do a better price for valet service). Overall: good service, good location, good quality for an old hotel, valet is pricey, food choices w/in the hotel are limited, and be more clear with your housekeeping staff about what you would like if you are staying multiple nights.

Beautiful Historic Hotel!
By glenndaj, 3/29/08
Beautiful hotel. Within walking distance to everything important in the downtown area. Mall, stadium etc. I had a two room suite. Closet was huge, marble bathroom, absolutely luxurious beds, big screen tv and wonderful view of the skating rink and downtown. Beautiful lobby. This is a historic hotel and it shows but it is clean and absolutely beautiful. Great price for such a good room. I would only stay there if I were going back to Providence. Room service forgot my order. Waited an hour and a half. When we dined in the restaurant we had bad waitress. Go over to the mall and eat at Dave and Busters just above the food court up the escalator. Much better service! Paying for parking and tips for valet can get a little expensive. Overall, it's a great hotel and worth the price.

PROV.BILTMORE:OUTSTANDING IN ALL WAYS
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/31/07
The restaurants were outstanding. A great place to hold a function. The food at the events we were at were much better than the good hotels we go to. For some reason they seem to put in that extra effort that makes them stand out. We have been to weddings, and Bar Mitsfa and also a group dinner and all were outstanding both with food and service. If you are thinking of a place to hold an event this should be at the top of your list. The personel at the hotel itself were very helpful and went out of their way to take care of our needs. The rooms were very nice and clean. This hotel is an icon and they take care of it as such.I have business people and family stay here all the time. I eat here quite a bit.

GREAT PLACE
By TimothyY, 7/29/07
My boss and I stayed here based on the positive reviews posted here. We were not disappointed. My boss was exhausted and was completely obnoxious to the front desk staff. They could see we had a rough day. Instead of ignoring that fact, they decided to try to put a smile on faces. Looks like customer service is not dead, who knew? They upgraded both our rooms to suites. They were extremely conformable with a great bed and flat screen T.V. Shower was one of those water saving things. Great room/great staff/great stay. You will not be disappointed.

No a/c!
By Angela Y, 7/16/07
We had a room on the 11th floor... Our first night was miserable!! There was no a/c!! A box fan was offered. We called several times to be moved to another room. Finally after much complaining we did get another room. The new room was on a lower floor and looked to have been renovated recently. The desk was missing a drawer and room door did not close properly most of the time. Also, vending machines and ice machines were not working on all floors and the halls were very very hot. Not at all what I expected for my first trip to Providence. Save your money and go somewhere else!

Beautiful and welcoming
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/2/07
My husband and I went to the Biltmore for a weekend getaway. We rented a premium suite and it was wonderful. The hotel lobby was beautiful, the history of the place interesting, the staff helpful, friendly and responsive. The bed was extremely comfortable and soft and the rooms were quite spacious. Our room had a lovely view of the city. There was a free, 24-hour access fitness center. The valet parking is highly recommended, although it does cost $22 per day, but we thought it was worth it as parking would have been a hassle otherwise. The concierge service was good, and the hotel is centrally located so it is easy to get anywhere in Providence, whether on foot or a short cab ride if you aren't driving. Some negatives were that the bathroom was really small, the air conditioning in our bedroom wasn't working (I called the desk and a maintenance person was in our room within 20 minutes and fixed it), and there was no mini refrigerator in the room. Overall we had a great experience and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. It would be our first choice in Providence for sure.

romance
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/28/07
This hotel was a perfect choice when I took my then girlfriend. It is a beautiful place right in the heart of providence. They had everything I needed for my romantic weekend. I've been there twice and am planning to go again.
