No rest for the weary
By KeithF, 11/24/09
Was there about a year ago. They hype those foam beds, but don't be fooled: 1. You'll get a guaranteed back ache the next morning, 2. THey're too dense and uncomfortable. 3. the foam is too hot, you'll be sweaty all night.

Truly bad experience.
By dskinner26, 02/26/08
Beware when purchasing room on priceline. Upon arrival we were told that the hotel only had smoking rooms available for the evening. It turns out this hotel is one of the few that forces priceline buyers to stay in smoking rooms(they opened the rooms up to priceline after all non-smoking rooms were booked). The smoke smell was so strong that we had to sleep with our window open and listen to all of the loud bar goers outside. The beds are memory foam. If you are not accustomed to these beds they are extremely uncomfortable. I barely slept a few minutes. The rooms look like they are falling apart. The wallpaper was peeling, the carpet was stained, and the rooms were extremely outdated ( like a 70's version of a colonial style). I was excited to stay in a historic hotel, but after my experience I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Best Hotel Experience
By Mike P, 02/20/08
The Benson Hotel is the Grande Dame of Portland hotels. Physically she is beginning to show her age but she is very much a classy lady. We were treated royally from the time the cab pulled up until the time we checked out. The staff was friendly and professional. Whenever we encountered a hotel employee - in the hall, in the lobby, in the elevator, they always enquired about our stay and if there was anything more they could do. The beds were extremely comfortable thanks to memory foam mattresses. I had a hard time convincing myself that there was a reason to get up and out of bed. One good reason to get up is the Sunday Brunch. Although a bit expensive, the excellent variety and quality of the food made it worth every penny. All in all the best hotel experience I've ever had.

Great Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/30/07
I knew someone at the hotel and they gave me a great rate to stay while I had some leisure business in town. The concierge was great and reccommended a great place for dinner, and we spent the end of our night at the Palm Court bar in the lobby. The beds were comfortable and service was great.

Never Going Back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/01/07
The hotel is nice overall but the noise level was unbelievable. Children running up and down the hallways as late as 1:00am, doors slmming closed, and the noise from outside was horiffic. I would never go back nor would I recommened it to anyone for the price you pay!

Would never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/13/07
When we tried to check in the hotel staff told my wife and I that they were prioritizing the rooms we had paid for our room 5 days in advance through priceline. It would seem that a professional basketball team came in and the hotel treated them over us, even though we were there first. It goes to show you that money really does talk.

Absolutely wonderful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/10/06
Everything about our stay was great! The hotel is beautiful, the staff are so friendly and helpful, the bed was better than my bed at home, and the food in the restaurant was fabulous! We will definitely be back!

Lost & Found
By Earl, 04/14/06
It was a nice hotel. Unfortunately, in my haste to depart, I left a small object behind in the room that I am trying to recover from the Hotel staff. I am hopeful that it is recoverable ... and the housecleaning staff has been very helpful in tracking down the item. I am offering a $100 reward for its recovery. Thank you!
