Surfsand Resort At Cannon Beach, Cannon Beach

We booked an ocean view room for three nights and called the preview day to confirm that everything was OK. We were told that our room was confirmed for three nights. We arrived there and we had a very nice room...for a few minutes. The hotel made a mistake with our reservation and they wanted to give us another room with no view. After few conversations with the front desk they gave as another room with ocean view. This was the worst room in the entire hotel. Next to the pool, elevator and rinse area. We heard the whole time the kids in the pool, the elevator coming and going and the people coming back from the beach and rinsing themselves next to our balcony. The room was much smaller than the first one and the bathroom was a really dump. After not being able to sleep the whole night due to the noise, we decided to pack and leave. If the hotel hadn't mess up our reservation we could have had a nice trip. Never coming to this place again.

Not sure what the 2005 reviewer didn't like about this hotel...must have been before the remodel??? Anyway, we have stayed here three or four times, and have always been happy. We have gone both as a couple and as a family (with three kids), and enjoy it either way. We also brought our dog one time. The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable, and the finishes are top-of-the-line. I agree with another reviewer that the bathrooms are overkill. Gorgeous, but overkill. We are planning to go again at the end of this month!

We had a great experience at the Surfsand despite a rainy and cold honeymoon. Our room was recently renovated and was perfect. The gas fireplace heated the room in minutes. The mattress and pillows were TempurPedic and very comfy. The bathroom was beautiful although the TV in the bathroom was slight overkill since you can watch the main tv from the tub. The service team was superb. Our only gripe was that the hotel rules state that smoking on your balcony is prohibited with the penalty being the cost of one night there which is insane. We can certainly understand not smoking in the beautiful room, but would like to have the option of smoking on our balcony given that we were the only guests in our entire building.

This is a wonderful property! We stayed on the fourth floor ocean front, and would not consider a different location. The renovated room was perfect- quiet, fireplace, plasma tv, bubble-tub, and a great bed with magnificent private views. The staff was helpful and friendly, and the location allows for a break from your car- you can walk to all the best resturants and shopping! We like this property better than the more expensive Stephanie. Can't wait to return!

Where to begin....Well my husband and I wanted a romantic overnight getaway at the beach and thought this looked like a great spot. WRONG. Their website misrepresents the rooms, they make them seem nice, plush and newer - WRONG. I have to admit the view was great, Haystack Rock was right outside our room, but that was the only thing they got right. Even the hotel reservationist raved about how nice the rooms were. When we arrived we were pleasantly impressed by the reception lobby, but then our mouthes dropped open and we literaly dropped our bags the moment we saw the room. Horrible, old, dirty, dark and cold best describes the room. The tiny gas fire place was surrounded by 70's stlye grey-white fake stone painted looking brick, the jacuzzi tub was old and surrounded by locker room looking moldy grey-white tile. And there was somthing gooey and booger looking stuck to the side of the tub. The shower was frigtening, dark and old. The bed was uncomfortable, the laminate was peeling and chipping off the counters, and worst of all the dead bolt on the front door had been repaired where it looked like it had been once forced open, and the dead bolt to the balcony literally pulled out of the cheap old molding in the wall when we opened the door - we did not feel safe. Lastly the heater was broken and a light bulb was burned out in one of the lamps. Not good. Do not stay here. They claim they are renovating in two years, so if you are even considereing staying here, then wait the two or so years to do so. We got a special mid week rate, otherwise there is no way we would have ever considered paying the full rate. What a way over priced motel 6 type experience! Probably worse then Motel 6!

This place is absolutely magical!! The view is spectacular, the best in Cannon Beach, in my opinion. I love falling asleep to the sound of the ocean and they even sell everything you need for a bonfire on the beach right in the hotel lobby!! We never stay anywhere else!!

I think that this hotel is really, really cool and you would be stupid not nto stay here.
