Not on par with competition
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/15/08
We have stayed here several times and noticed a steady decline in the things we used to love about this place. Everything seems to look ok, but there is no comparison to the past. I think they've cut back drastically on staff or lost a lot of their quality staff. When you call the desk you almost always get put on hold. There seems to always be a line at the front desk. Also the rooms look clean, but you might pull out a dirty dish or see that your bathroom glass has been used already. I recognize some of the staff members but their demeanor has changed to one of get them in and get them out. Used to be you could approach anyone and not feel like you're holding them up. I don't think it's their fault. What can you do, there's only so many phone calls and people interactions that one person can handle. Also VERY disappointed in the way their general manager talked about an inpending inspection. I was eating breakfast while she was following the staff making the breakfast around and pointing out what display items that were placed wrong. From what I observed the inspection was not food related so much as it was display related. If it had been food related she would have had a thermometer out. Instead she was pointing things out things relating to signs and at one point talked about how they were serving the wrong amounts of food. Dressing down your staff in the middle of their doing their job should be reserved for serious offenses. I, as your guest, should not know that you're expecting a surprise inspection at anytime. Come on. I felt so sorry for the staff. Afterwards they were not only behind in putting out food, but their smiles were totally gone. I really wish I could recommend this hotel, but I don't know that its going to get any better really. If the staff is treated like this daily they will probably go to the other hotels that are opening up in the area. I believe that I will try those instead of staying here.

better than motel 6
By Mark, 05/05/06
I was recently moved to Norman by a company in town and stayed in the Marriot Residence Inn, Norman for over a month. Front desk service was pretty spotty, housekeeping was decent (although the maid would run a full dishwasher load for two dishes left in the sink- ecologists beware!) The structure is older and is susceptable creeky ceiling/floorboards - not a great thing if you are on the lower level. The card key readers for the doors were pretty bad- I had to get numerous replacements. The free breakfast and hor's'de'oevers are decent but overall the cleanliness really should be a notch higher in a facility of this nature.

Go Sooners!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/26/06
I love to stay here during the University of Oklahoma Baseball season. We stay here because it is so close to the baseball field. Also what the hotel has can't be beat. If you're a price shopper like me, consider this: You're only paying about $10 more a night to be in a suite with a kitchen!

It snows in Norman?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/03/06
We went to Norman to visit the University of Oklahoma. My daughter is thinking about attending there in the fall. The front desk staff was very helpful with maps and directions to the University. Although I didn't know it when I checked in, this hotel is the closest hotel to OU. It is very easy to get there from the hotel and thankfully so because one day into our stay it snowed pretty heavy. If she does decide to go to OU I know we will stay here when we come to visit. Lovely place they have here.

Stop writing good things....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/23/05
Very sad when I call and they are full! Would prefer that everyone stop writing great things about this hotel because it fills up fast. Due to a function at OU, I had to stay up in OKC at the Radisson - and although the Radisson was plush, I wish I could have my Residence Inn room. The staff is great and the rooms are different and very comfortable. But don't check it out, please!

The Best Hotel In Norman!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/27/05
My family stayed at the Residence Inn in Norman this past weekend for a family reunion. The staff was the friendliest staff I have ever encountered in my 32 years of travelling. We have a daughter with special needs, and they were most accomodating. It was wonderful to go down for the free breakfast every morning and be greeted by the smiling and exceptionally friendly front desk worker. The lady who cleaned our room even brought a toy to the room as a gift for our grandson staying with us. Thank you so much for making our trip to Norman and family reunion a very memorable stay. We will be back for sure!

Will Return Anyway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/07/05
We had ants in our room and they had to come and spray. They took care of it right away, but we didn't get any discount or anything. And the room smelled from the spray.

A wonderful place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/27/05
I enjoying staying at this hotel. The Residence Inn is a unique place. This hotel has everything. I stay for a couple days at a time each week. My company brought me to Norman, OK to set up an IT system at the University of Oklahoma. I usually dread work "details" like this, because usually I'm cramped into a hotel room with a bed and a shower. Here though I have lots of room, a full kitchen, a big work desk (with high speed internet), a couch, and even a walk-in closet. The property itself is set up like an apartment complex, lots of parking. I can send out my dry cleaning in the morning and pick it up after work in the evening. Sometimes I also leave a grocery list at the front desk in the morning. They'll go shopping for me and put the items in my room. They don't charge anything extra, I just pay for the groceries. It's very convenient. My favorite part of the hotel is the free breakfast. It provides me a great start in the morning...this morning I made my own waffle and decorated it with strawberries and whipped cream. Nothing was frozen, all fresh. This hotel is designed for the weary traveler too as much as it is for the business person. Most of the suites have fireplaces, which is cool on a cold night. They also have a mini-market in the lobby area where you can buy anything from a TV dinner to a 2-liter bottle of soda. The staff is very gracious. They are always so sweet. About a month ago I came down with the flu. As you know, being sick and traveling is quite possibly the worst combination. After checking into the hotel I fell right to sleep. In the morning I could barely roll out of bed. I called the front desk and asked if they could bring me an extra blanket and box of kleenexes. The young lady who answered asked me if she could bring me something for breakfast. I told her that I didn't think that I could keep anything down, but I thanked her for the thought. Then she asked if they could get me any medicine. I had forgotten about that, so I put in my "grocery order" for some flu medicine. About five minutes later there was a knock at my door. When I opened it there stood someone from the front desk and someone from housekeeping. The clerk was carrying a tray with a bottle of orange juice, a couple of yogurts, some fruit, some soda crackers, a carton of milk, and a mini-box of my favorite cereal. Behind her stood the housekeeper with a blanket and kleenexes. They walked in, put the food in the refrigerator and the blanket on the couch. The housekeeper opened the kleenex box for me and put it on the nightstand. As they were leaving the front desk person told me that when the medicine was here that she would make the message light on my telephone blink, that way they wouldn't wake me up with a telephone call. About an hour later the light started blinking. I called the front desk and they delivered it to me, along with a cold bottle of water. I tell this story because I was so impressed by how they went out of their way to help me. I was so sick, and they made me feel like I was a part of the family. They really do care here.
