I was very upset to see dirty work practices at Fort Rapids. I work in the food business so I feel that I know what I'm talking about here. The snack bar inside the actual water park was most likely breaking about 5 food safety rules/laws. For one, the people running the stand had extremely poor work practices in how they spoke and handled customers. No, not a rule broken here, but BAD for business - As far as food safety and working with food? No one wore gloves, the soda machine and counter were covered in a sticky goo with cups spilled on their sides and on the floor, which was disgusting. I could see into the back, and I saw 5 or more opened boxes of food, some stacked on the floor which is a huge safety issue, no one had their hair tied back, or wore hats, visors or hair nets. The fried food had left crumbs all over the floor and the pizza we were served was at BEST luke warm and I can bet it had been left out in the "no no" temperature zone for too long ( a BIG food borne illness factor) I can only imagine the last time the grease was changed in their fryer and I also saw an open ice cream cooler near the front with two open boxes used to hold the door open. I could not in good faith allow my child to eat her pizza. Thank goodness it was free since we were there on a "field trip" with a group. ALSO - the bathroom and changing areas. I could probably go into great length about the nasty floors, toilets and sink areas, but honestly, as I write this I'm holding back a gag reflex just thinking about it. Just know this- WEAR FLIP FLOPS! or water shoes even just to walk around back there. Especially for your children. This also reminds me that while we were waiting for a slide, up on a top level, someone had obviously urinated (possibly a child waiting in line) and the smell of urine was overbearing as we headed to the slide. It takes about 30 seconds to use a big floor squeegee and get rid of the pee water siting around up there, not to mention hose it off! GROSS! I honestly showered and clorox wiped my feet down after visiting. As far as the rides... The water in the kids play area was IMO very cold and not enjoyable. The hot tube was so full of chemicals it bleached my bathing suit and watered my eyes just trying to sit there for 10 minutes. The park itself and hotel seem to be run by humans who have not been properly trained to deal with the public and have the know how to give a good impression and a business like sense. I think most of the employees there need 40 or more training hours starting with food safety and how to treat customers. I personally have had over 33 hours (as a beginner) in all of these subjects and I think it is completely necessary to run a successful business.
