Econo Lodge New Paltz, New Paltz

This place didn't look nice when we first pulled in. But being Labor Day weekend, we didn't have much choice after making the reservation 2 months in advance. We started check in and when she gave me the credit card slip, it was higher than when we booked our reservations over the phone. I asked why and she responded that because it was a holiday weekend, the prices were higher and someone should have called me that morning. When I objected, quoting my conversation I had with a gentleman end of July, she hit a button on the computer and said she cancelled the reservation since I had a problem. I had to ask for my credit card back. I did not explicitly ask for my refund confirmation which was a mistake. My sisters had already checked in so we stopped into their room while finding a new hotel 30 minutes away. The rooms are very small, the bathrooms are dingy. My sister called me to pick them up at 11:30 pm because when pulled the covers back from the beds they found fleas. They called the front desk and the woman said they could go to a different hotel. And if they were out of the room in 5 minutes she would refund their money, but if it was more than 5 minutes she would charge them for the night. My sister insisted on her refund receipt and after 15 minutes in the lobby finally got it. While waiting for us to pick them up from the hotel, they waited in the dark parking lot because they weren't allowed to sit in the lobby. So they watched the lady enter the room for a while. She did not take in or out armloads of towels or sheets as expected. Hopefully she set a flea bomb...

The exterior of the building makes you nervous since it is older. But, the office and room were clean with a like new bathroom! They served bagels, toast, cinnamon rolls, orange juice and coffee for continental breakfast. It may seem small but the fact that they had real butter, cream cheese and half and half shows they weren't cutting back. We would definitely return

I made reservations , showed up and found a tired old over priced motor inn. We checked into our two rooms and they smelt awful. We stayed a total of 10 minutes. They refused to take the charges off my credit card. Our 10 minute stay cost $296.98. I will never go to another Econolodge.

This hotel is awful. Its dirty, there were spiders in the bed, window was left opened on a hot & humid day - which made trying to cool off the room extremely difficult. The continental breakfast consisted of stale food, and there was no coffee. The room smelled of mold, the furnisings were horrible, there was no reception on the tv; which by the way came on at 5:00 am for no reason----but the worst part was that there was no hot water and just a "trickle" of cold water in the shower. The staff did not seem to care and i am still not quite sure if they even knew what i was talking about. Now i know why this was the only hotel in the area that had a vacancy.
