Do not stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/7/10
I had to stay there 2 night during the conference - very bad experience. Extremely dirty room, no heating, no hot water, smoke in non-smoking room. Front desk staff is not helpfull at all. Do not believe their web-site - they no longer provide free shuttle from SYR airport - prepare to spend $21 one-way for the cab. There are much better hotels around - choose anything else.

Worst Hotel EVER - avoid in all means
By olapinka, 10/7/10
I could not imagine it might be that BAD. I am very budget-minded traveler and was staying in cheap hotels all around USA and abroad. and NEVER had so bad experience. It must be -10 on 0..10 scale. First - they didn't have a shuttle from the airport as was advertised on their web-page - and the shuttle was the main reason to stay with them. Well, have to spend some $ on taxi. Second - they gave smoking room while I reserved non-smoking. The smell was pretty bad, but they claimed they had no other rooms available. The colleague of mine was staying in the non-smoking room on the different floor and said there was smoke coming from the room next to his - supposedly non-smoking; and he had health problem related to smoke - they did nothing. Looks like they did not care at all reserving smoking/non-smoking rooms. Third - the room was dirty as I had never seen before. Lipstick, chewing gum, and some other unidentified substances over walls, window curtain rods, floor - everywhere. Table, chair, handles were greasy (?). Dead fly on the bed. Fesses on the floor behind the toilet. Fourth and the worst for me - no heating! It was October and below 40F at night. Room temperature fallen below 60 F. I asked in the very first evening, they told they could do nothing right now (it was about midnight) and will send maintenance to check next day. Nothing was done by the second night. They claimed the heating was off for the entire hotel and will be turned on next Monday (Thank you so much, I was going to be home by Monday). And my colleagues staying on the other floor did have heating, as well it was on in the hall. I asked for portable heater - they didn't have any by this time. Fifth: what could be worse than a room with heat in October? A room with no heat and no hot shower! There was hot water in the facet in sink, but not in the shower. Looks like temperature selector in the shower didn't work and was set for the same lukewarm water no matter the position of the handle. Again, I complained to the front desk and been said the maintenance guy will check it next morning. Guess what? Nothing was done, as for heating. BTW, other guests complained that they had extremely hot water in their rooms - looks like water temperature was set fixed at random for different rooms. And the last one - the Internet connection disappeared second evening, so I had to get home to submit this this review.

Great Stay
By RJ, 9/22/08
I can honestly say that I believe that this hotel is getting a raw deal. I have stayed MULTIPLE times at the United Inn on buisness and have never had a negitive stay. As with all hotels, occasionally there have been glitches, but management is always nearby to help, if at all possible. The shuttle runs 24-7, and even if their driver calls in, thet will still get you a cab to go to the train station or airport...at their expense. The shuttle charges $10 to go to the SYR Airport, as opposed to the $20 you'd pay a cab to go the same trip...the shuttle is cheap and convienant. They breakfast was acceptable, they don't offer steak and eggs, but if you want that you'd probabily rather go to Dennys across the street anyway, they offer bagels, muffins, danishes, cereal, juice, fresh fruit, etc...for somebody on the go, this is very convienant. In a prior post an individual called out one particular desk clerk, Nathan, and I must say that after dealing with Mr. Nathan repeatedly that they are completely off base with their accessment, Nathan is a VERY respectable hard worker, as are most of the employees, everybody at the desk falls under this catagory, as do the manager, who is always available to his guests, his door is always open when he is in right off the main lobby, so if there are ANY complaints he is typically there to make things right. Is this the Ritz Carlton, no, it isn't...but if you're looking for a decient nights sleep at a reasonable rate I would highly recomend the United Inn and all of their services. To the United Inn, keep up the good renovations and the great work, and I'll see you soon!

seedy con artists
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/29/08
We reserved a room here in advance. upon arrival at 7pm we were told by front desk that our room wasn`t ready and it might be 3 hours before we could get a room if at all. clerk(Nathan) said "atleast your credit card wont be charged". We left and couldn`t get a room elsewhere. (parent weekend at local college). So we drove 3 hours home and the kids didn`t get to go to the State Fair this year. GUESS WHAT???? They charged my credit card for the night ($124+tax). So I called the hotel and the manager won`t return my calls or take any calls. Obviously I had to dispute the charge with mastercard. when they heard the story they laughed at this rediculous place and told me i wouldn`t have to pay a penny of it. The overall outside appearance of this place is completly run down. The kind of place that should be rented by the hour, not the night.

Awesome! Newly renovated!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/16/08
I had seen this hotel in the '05 when it needed a facelift, but was still a bargain. We stayed in June of '08. Totally renovated right down to the paint outside. New carpeting, very friendly customer service. Great location, would stay there again. Very clean.

at least it was cheap...
By eri, 10/16/07
i made the reservation thinking it was a quality inn and was worried when i learned it wasn't anymore. slowest check-in ever. heat was broken in our room. mystery stains on mattress. halls reek of some kind of old man cologne. buckets in the hall for leaking ceiling. bathroom fan was broken. i have to say the showerhead was perfect, and it was nice to have a fridge and our own balcony. but other than that this place was pretty much a dive. they gave us a discount the 2nd night because we had so many problems but weren't very cooperative to do much beyond give us another room. it was great to get a cheap room for homecoming weekend but you get what you pay for!

Bad, Bad, Bad
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/21/07
When it was the Comfort Inn, it was a budget motel. That was ok, is was clean, and you get what you pay for. Now that United Inn has taken over, it has gone down hill! It needs a complete refurbishment. But the worst thing was, it appears to be drug dealings going on. NO, I didn't see any dealings going on, but the type of personal staying their, sure appears to be! The room next to mine, had people coming and going to the early hours in the morning. The front desk pesonal where friendly though! Kevin

Won't do it again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/17/07
Everything about the place was filthy! Silverware was dirty-and i don't mean just one piece. Went through 7 plates before i found a clean one. Elevator smelled like mold and gym shoes-when it worked. Waited 10 minutes to check in before we were waited on. Rooms still not cleaned at 6pm! Service was not friendly. Don't know why the health dept. has not stepped in and shut this place down. The only good thing there was a woman that worked in the continental breakfast area. She worked her butt off. I was totally disappointed and i will NEVER stay there again. Front canopy was ripped upon entering hotel. Seemed like there were other services that were happening outside the hotel at night! Won't go there! The pool outside did look clean! I didn't use it though. When the rooms were cleaned, they weren't vacuumed. Went to make a pot of coffee-little water still in it-poured water in and white stuff floated up to the top and it smelled like mold! No coffee for us-thank you! Do yourself a favor-go somewhere else. There are about 5 hotels within the same area. At bar during happy hour-bartender didn't know what day it was and charged us different price instead of happy hour price! Took about 5 minutes to get hot water while i was brushing my teeth in bathroom. That should be enough. Would rather pitch a tent then to stay there again!
