Beautiful Grounds..... unhelpful staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/5/11
The Glen Cove Mansion is a beautiful place to stay and the grounds are nice. The only problem is if you need help from the staff or anything else forget it! Had forgotten a few toiletries, asked if they had any, all they did was pass you onto someone else for help that couldn't help or could not be found. Then tried calling the next day, same old story left messages no return call. Not sure if they even have staff at this point, just the front desk.

Awful service, rude and dirty.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/3/11
I used to love the mansion when it was Harrison House. The baked cookies and coffee station were perfect. The chef for Thanksgiving fabulous! Then new management ruined it. Adam is awfully rude and unhelpful. He acts as if he owned the place and we were peasants. The indoor pool heater didn't work. The pool had floating hair in it when it first opened in the morning. The carpets in the rooms were not vacuumed. Dust was everywhere. Hair was left in the tub. Gross. The Thanksgiving meal was minimal. Very disappointing I missed the old chefs heart shaped gingersnap cookies. They were really missed. I fell down the stairs to the bowling alley in front of an employee and no one asked if I was ok after. My back had rug burns. To finish this review, I love the history and elegance of the mansion. I just wish the current owners would sell the place and hire new front desk managers.

Great Service
By CR, 6/21/10
I loved the staff here. They were very friendly and always accommodating. The room was ok... Not better than a Marriott. There was a coffee station in the morning for those on the go, but stay for the breakfast buffett it was absolutely great

Not worth the price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/15/10
I have been going to this hotel for years. When it ws Harrison House it was lovely. Then management changed. Now they have attitudes at the front desk. No coffee stations or fresh baked cookies to welcome you. The rooms are dirty and the pool has hair floating in it when it just openned for the day. The hottub was really dirty so I didn't go in. The grounds are beautiful. Too bad they ruined it with bad staff. Adam, the manager, is rude and cold. Not what you would expect with such a high price per night. They more than doubled the price since the Harrison House days. Thanksgiving buffett dinner was not something I would return to. I hope they change management again!

Do not have your wedding here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/23/10
I had my wedding at the Mansion in September of 2007. I was so disappointed with my big day that I did not have the written any of my reviews. However, after another appalling experience with the Mansion's management, I had to inform everyone of my experiences with this venue. Yes, there are a couple of positive things about this venue (i.e., grounds, location). However, the service and management is horrendous!!! (This is of course after you book with them and give them multiple deposits. I did not receive ill service before booking the event.) On the day of my wedding, my wedding party arrived to find out that there was no valet. (This was in my contract and was paid for). I had to inform management that valet did not show up! Why this was not known and the bride had to inform the venue is inexcusable!! No arrangements were made for the rest of the night and all the guests had to walk up the long path. In addition, there were other errors throughout the night all of which were explained to their wedding planner (e.g., wrong placements of favors/centerpieces, room blocks were not found, utensils were not replenished during cocktail hour). This did not end - the next morning during brunch we saw our wedding centerpieces (that we had planned to donate) as the buffet decorations! In addition, when we finally left the venue...they could not find our wedding cake. To make up for all these mistakes, Glen Cove Mansion provided us with some extra desserts and drinks at the Pub. They also sent us a letter offering us $1250. This seemed to me like an insult as we spent well over $40,000 for the venue. I spoke with higher management who minimized their errors and stated, "This is how women feel when their day does"t go as planned." - But, isn't that their job to ensure that the day goes as planned?!? Last month my husband and I finally followed up on the letter. We were told to contact Adam who did not get back to us after multiple phone calls. After a month without any resolution, Fred (Adam's boss) finally informed us that the Mansion is under new management and that they could not "honor" their offer - even though they are the same venue!!!!!! This seems outrageous!!! DO NOT book your wedding or event at Glen Cove Mansion if you want to work with unprofessional staff and horrible management. With the amount of money they charge, you would expect better service. I would have received better service if I had booked in another venue!!!!

Excellent!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/09
I stayed at the GC Mansion on Thanksgiving. They had a beautiful buffet and friendly employees. Whatever my family and I demanded we got.....very quickly. I am actually a Glen Cover. This is one of the nicest and biggest places in Glen Cove.

most disappointing
By bellagrl, 9/17/08
The grounds were gorgeous, the outside of the mansion was stunning...But beyond that...I have never experienced such substandard service for this type of nightly rate. My cousin got married there this last weekend....Not even the bride's mother got the accomodations she paid for...("We reserved a room, but 2 double beds is certainly not guaranteed'...were the words used) Are you kidding me?? I checked in, and someone else was there...in my room!!! I needed to get ready for the wedding - as I was in the wedding party...but, no...someone else was in my room - Ummmm...not impressed... The rooms have...ready for this..murphy beds...not real beds...murphy beds. For such a luxurious setting, can you believe it? - Horrendous...AND...the bar doesn't take cash or credit card, so the REST of the family members who were NOT staying there, (but chose to hang out with our family), could not partake in the afterhour festivities at the pub...because they only take room charge...not open to the public...nice....I drove all the way from Manhattan for this..most unfriendly and most disapponting.

A very nice hotel located in a beautiful quiet area. The food and dining experience was excellent. The staff are all pleasant and freindly. I would recommend the hotel to anyone staying on the west end of Long Island.

Great amenities, service needs help
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/11/08
I have stayed at the hotel many times (since it was called the Harrison House) as it is close to family and friends. The amenities are plentiful and the food is OK. However, the front office seems aloof and have a certain "air" about them that is offputting. I wouldn't mention it were this not a recurring attitude. Perhaps all the place needs is better training and management that has experience working with staffers to provide professional service. I could then recommend for weary travelers or those who just want to get away for a weekend in the country.
