Priced to Smell
We stayed at the Teakwood during a football game in Las Cruces, so no one else had any rooms. Also the Teakwood offered it's rooms (2 double beds) for substantially less than it's competitors, again most of whom did not even have any rooms available. The lobby was fairly nice although the motel had pathetic curb appeal. When we walked through the corridors, we found them to be in either a disgraced, unkept state or at least unfinished with exposed wires and unpainted walls ripped open. Upon entry to our ground level room, we noticed that there was a light but awful smell rather like stale human feces lingering in the air. To top it all off, the glass sliding door in back of the room, did not even lock; it's locking mechanism was clearly fouled and the motel would have been responsible if we were broken into and bludgeoned by ruthless bandits come nightfall. Naturally we complained and were given another room which although had locking doors, failed to give up the putrid stench which engulfed the previous room. The beds were mediocre in comfort and the showers were slightly moldy. The staff were friendly and about my age, and the hot breakfast in the morning was not too bad. However, the clientele that I saw in the breakfast area in the morning, were plainly of a lower tax-bracket. I felt sorry for most of them because even they did not look like they wanted to be there. If you want to bask in a latrine-like facility, feel free to stay there. Go to the Ramada down the road for better rooms.
