Friendliest place in town

My wife and I get through Winnemucca quit often. I have family in Phoenix and I pass through Winnemucca on the way down. We're from Portland Oregon. My little airplane needs refueling when we reach that area, so it makes a convenient place to stop. (by the way, if you're flying the airport folks are about the nicest peoples we have run into! Fair gas prices)
We always use the "Winner's" shuttle to get into town, and stay at the hotel. The woman driver is great, and she and my wife sing along to Janis Joplin whenever we make the trip. It's better than the local radio.
We were stranded in town about three Thanksgivings ago due to a persistant snow storm. Winner's hotel was a great host. They even had the shuttle run us up the the Walmart so we could buy gloves and boots, then drive us back. We were dressed for Phoenix and not for a blizard. Great old Western hospitality.
We try to stay in the old casino building. The rooms are small, but very clean and well lit. We have also stayed in the annex building where the rooms are bigger. Either are OK.
The restautant in the hotel is OK and has pretty much the usual wild west fare, a lot of biscits and gravy that would make my doctor turn blue. If that's not to your taste, there are several great "Basque" places within a short walk.
Most of my evaluation is based on the people working at Winner's. They, like most people in Winnemmuca, are very friendly, and remind me of my first trip out West, from Ohio, in the 60's. The pace is still slow, and still has a lot of that old country hospitality. I prefer it to the other "chain" hotels in town.
