Find a Better Option
By ,
I had to book at last minute hotel during a time when a very large convention was in town. The El Cortez was the only one I could find for under 200 dollars, and there was a reason why. I stayed in the Pavillion, and it was VERY loud. I could hear conversations in the rooms next to mine as well as outside. There is construction all around the hotel which starts at 6am. The restaurants look like a scene out of 1960's Iowa, and barely eatible.

worse place to stay
By ,
Have you been to the El Cortez website? Well, the pictures on the website are a just a tad bit different from the TRUTH. The website makes this hotel look like a top of the line 4 star hotel. In reality this is a no-star hotel. My experience at this hotel was the worse ever. The parking was horrible, the food was horrible, the service horrible, the room in general was horrible. The drainage in the shower was horrible, it flooded in just minutes. For this reason we had to shower as quick as we could. The TV was the oldest TV I had ever seen. I literally squinted in order to see what was on. The hotel was EXTREMELY SMOKEY. We had a non-smoking room which reeked of smoke, and to top it off, our windows would not crack open, not even a bit. Due to the smoke, when we woke up in the morning, our noses were nearly bleeding. What we thought was going to be a good hotel, turned out to be a DUMP HOTEL. A MOTEL 6 would have been better, so think twice before checking a room with the famous EL CORTEZ. i reported the smoke issue to the service lady at the counter and she said oh! just put a towel behind the door at the to avoid the smoke. why go through all that when the hotel was suposed to be providing a better service. the drainage in the bathrooms was so bad u have to hurriedly take u'r bath and get out to avoid flooding in the bathtub. i will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

GOOD TIMES ARE GONE!
By ,
i started staying at the el c six years ago. My in-laws always stayed there and for the price of the room, food and location you couldn't beat it. The casino was fun. They used to announce winners very often and the machines at the bar were great to sit at. You could talk to the grey haired bartender and spend some time enjoying a cold drink. The food was not bad for the priceand the walk to the freemont st. Exp. Was ok.used to be a fun vegas experience. Through the years however the prices of the food have gone up and the taste has gone way down!(find a coupon, get it for free) no mention of any winners in the casino and the staff both casino, and hotel are very rude now! Don't think this is what jackie had in mind. Spent alot of visits there and never once recieved any comps what so ever. I will however return one more time...one last time, to remember the goodtimes one last time. Then it is off to someplace else. A place to remind me of how fun vegas can be...see you there and not at the el c.

Very Unhappy
By ,
El Cortez is not worth a single penny we spent. The service was horrible, the wait at the front desk was long considering there was only 1 person in front of my husband and I. The woman who checked us in had a hard time confirming our reservation in the system, and finally figured the problem out the 3rd time around, the problem being her end, and not ours. We finally get the key cards in hand, she says our room number (or what I believed to be our room number) and we head for our room. We get to the room, and it's the wrong one... so I think - "Well I just didn't hear her right on the number, I'll just check the key card holder for the room number..." - Nope that would've been too easy.... she never wrote the number down on the holder for us... I had to head back to the front desk, while my husband waited upstairs with our bags. Very frustating to say the least. And then only one key card worked, she must've forgot to activate the second card. Anyway, we finally get into the right room and although it states NON-SMOKING - that didn't mean a thing... it absolutely REAKED!!! I expected to smell some smoky odor to the air with it being such an old hotel and all the years and years of smoking in the rooms... but this was beyond a smoky odor... it was even saturated into the blankets and sheets. I'll end this review here, as a part of me feels bad leaving all the negative feedback... This is my first bad review of a hotel, and I hope it to be my last. Folks, if you can, stay elsewhere. ---------------- ALSO on a side note , this hotel/casino is not directly on the Fremont Experience, it is about 2 blocks away. And the walk to and from was a little scary late at night.

El Cortez Hotel Still a Dump.
By ,
The place has new carpet but is still full of very nasty looking people off the street, watch your purse ladies. The food in the Cafe is really worse than Pig Slop. We complained to the manager, but were told we had no taste, really thats what he said. Get a place on the strip and AVOID THE EL CORTEZ HOTEL AND CASINO AT ALL COSTS. The over all service, quality of service and location are far below what the average visitor will find acceptable.

Just Dying To Come Back
By ,
I've been there twice last year and I enjoyed it both times, I really like the laid back feeling of it, not the fast paced stuff like the strip, the location is just perfect for us.Love the Freemont expierence, a great place to be with your Love, Can't wait till I can come back now that you've renovated the place.

You get what you pay for. I will never go there again.
By ,
After getting to my room, I wanted to make a phone call but I had to go down and let the front desk swipe my credit card to get privelages (since they hadn't already). Then I wanted to iron a shirt, but the front desk had to swipe my credit card again to give Housekeeping permission to bring me an iron and board. Why don't they do this all at once when you check in? Restaurants and parts of the casino are under repair and unaccessable. Hotel shuttle inconvenient. Mediocre cleanliness. Terrible food. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.
