10 reviews for Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel St. Louis, Clayton
everything deluxe
By harriedMom, 07/02/08
My teenage daughter and I are in St. Louis to visit colleges. Sheraton had the perfect location. Free transportation to / from airport and to / from Washington University. Great hotel -- everything was deluxe! Very clean! You need your room key to operate the elevator, for security reasons. We thought we had a great price, but forgot to figure in the tips for van driver, and the cost of breakfast. The breakfast was $15 per person, plus tip. There is a fee for parking at this hotel. We still thought it was very nice.

great service for biz traveller
By hadas8, 12/06/07
I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Clayton Plaza, St. Louis. The location is prime, a safe area with lots of restaurant options and ten minutes travel from the city's trendy west end district and forest park museums and zoos and five minutes from the galleria shopping mall. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and personally customer satisfaction oriented. I had misplaced my cellphone charger and several of the staff from the front desk to housekeeping went out of their way to help find it and to offer another to use while there(I later discovered where I had lost it). I got an excellent hotel rate through an internet site and was thoroughly pleased. The lobby and bar with plasma tv is beautiful, warm and inviting. They are remodeling now and will be completely refurbished by spring 2008. The beds are awesome, and I would definitely elect to stay there if business took me to St. Louis again.

Great spot...
By PennyV, 07/10/07
Checked in at the Sheraton after a bad experience down the street at the Seven Gables Inn. It was a musty old hotel and the Sheraton was clean and fresh. Great beds, firm mattresses, clean sunny room, all amenities. And a good value at $99. Liked the covered parking and they didn't charge us for it. I will definately stay there again.

Good experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/08/06
I normally don't post reviews, but after reading the last two negative reviews I felt a need to. After confirming two queen beds, we showed up and discovered we had a single queen. They quickly fixed the situation. Staff was very nice and the room was clean. The pool was also nice, but the hottub was broken. We had an great stay. No reason to worry. Leon

Worst ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/14/06
We have stayed in hotels, hostels, inns etc. all over the world and this was one of the worst rooms we have ever had. The room was small, overlooked the indoor pool so it was humid and had no outside light. There was one straight chair at a small desk, no easy chair, no table, no refrigerator, no remote control. Warm bottled water on top of the TV was $$$$. The bathroom was so tiny the sink was against the toilet top. The electric outlet was set on top of the sink!!! No place to put toiletries. The maids were very loud all afternoon....no nap! I filled out the card asking how we liked the room and later received a letter from the manager apologizing and offering an upgrade on a room the next time we stay$#@@??? We received the government rate and perhaps that is why we got this room, but what does that tell you? We would have done better at a Motel 6!!!

You don't know small!!
By Eric Lemay, 07/04/06
The room are not small. They are VERY small. Just my wife and I and we felt cramped. $10 to park in there garage is just excessive. It may have been remolded but it still looked old. I will not stay here again.

Finally, true customer service
By John, 07/03/06
Upon arrival I left the family in the car out front and went to check-in. I waited in line (which including myself was 2 people) for about 15-30 seconds before the baggage handler noticed me and asked if I was wanting to check-in. Since he couldn't help me, he ran behind the desk looking for someone who could, and in less then 5 minutes I was parking the car. The whole staff seemed to carry a "let me help you" kind of a mentality. It was clean, comfy bed/pillows, in a nice neighborhood, and there is a 24 hour help line for just about anything, including local pizza delivery. I didn't care for the self park fee of $10, but I was comforted to know that my vehicle was in the hotel ramp and not likely to be vandelized. I also was shocked to find that a local call from my room was $.99, that was annoying since it wasn't posted anywhere and had it been I could have easily used my cell. Also for having 17 floors, 2 guest elevators seemed a little undersized for the demand. But the overall experience left a smile on me and the family.

Nice hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/20/06
Nice. Bathroom could've been cleaned better. Someone else's hair was in the shower for the entire 2 days we were there! Otherwise was nice.

Stay away from this hotel!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/26/05
I do not travel for business, but over the past 35 years I have stayed in a numerous hotels and motels across the country and this one ranks among the biggest disappointments. Do not be fooled by the opulent lobby with the 3 bellhops. It would appear that these are left over vestiges of days gone by when the Clayton Plaza must have been a classy hotel providing fine rooms and good service. But not today. First, the rooms are by far the SMALLEST hotel rooms I have ever seen. After bumping into furniture and suitcases, we decided to move the desk chair up against the wall so we could get past it without tripping. And the bathroom was TINY and NARROW. I could not even dry off after a shower without banging my elbows into the walls and door. I would guess that at one time our room was part of a full-size room which got rehabbed and reduced in size by 2/3. But how much space does one need when you are really there to sleep? That's when we discovered the MATTRESS problem. The mattress was kind of "V" shaped. No matter how hard my wife and I tried to stay on our own side of the mattress, it was impossible. We kept rolling into the middle of the bed and then would struggle to roll back to the outside. I finally fell soundly asleep only to be awakened at 3:00AM by the blaring of a clock radio coming thru the wall from the VACANT room next door. I never really fell back to sleep that night. When we left our room for breakfast the next morning, our neighbor's dinner trays were still sitting in the hall from the nite before. We came back from breakfast, showered and left for the day and the trays of rotting food were still sitting in the hallway. I certainly wouldn't have expected this from a Sheraton. Stay away from this hotel. There are much better ones in the St Louis area.

Negative experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/16/05
The location was good. The service and amenities leave a lot to be desired. The bathrooms were old and totally run down. Everything seemed like it was in a lot of disrepair. The facility itself is very old and everything was in quite a bit of a run down shape. The airconditioning did not work at all. It was HOT in the room and when we asked for someone to come and fix it, he came in and fidgeted with it for a while. Then he changed the temperature setting to about 40 degrees and said that it would cool down in a bit. It did! It cooled down to about 40 degrees about 4 hours later!! They were very unapologetic, unhelpful and a sad excuse for a hotel. I will never stay there again! Or at any other Sheraton for that matter, if I can help it.
