No, this is not Trump Towers, but...

My wife and I needed a last-minute room for Saturday night this past weekend and almost everything in Saint Cloud was booked. We were not about to spend $200. After reading some of the reviews we had some second thoughts about this place, but with no real choices we thought we'd either try the motel or sleep in the car.
Here's the deal: Whenever you book at a place called the "Thrifty Motel" you should adjust your expectations a little. You are paying for a bed, a shower, and a toilet, that's about it. The bed should be clean and the shower and toilet should work. To me, anything above that is a bonus.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that our room wasn't "nasty" like a previous reviewer commented. Instead, our room was very clean with fresh towels. The bed was comfortable with clean sheets and pillowcases. It was quiet at night so we got a good nights sleep. All in all we were happy with it for one night.
And our experience with the night staff was that he was very friendly and helpful, absolutely a gentleman.
For extras, our whirlpool worked great (the motel provides bubble bath), the cable TV included HBO, and we used the fridge (but not the microwave). You can make local calls for free from your room; most 5-star hotels that I've been to don't allow that.
One thing I would have loved (and I would have given this a 5-star rating) is if there were a coffee maker in the room; they do have coffee in a vending machine for 25 cents or you can walk 50 feet to the Holiday gas station across the lot like I did for a little bit better cup of java. Coffee is a big deal for me in the morning.
On the negative side, there is no bar or restaurant either on the premises or within short walking distance, so you will likely have to drive to get decent food and drink, but downtown is only 5 minutes away across the river. Also, the room might be a little small for some, but we were OK with it.
Maybe it's just be cause our expectations were a little lower that we left feeling good, but regardless, we will go back for sure.
