Days Inn Maplewood provided a "discount" for staying 2 nights and is conveniently located across from the Maplewood Mall. These are about the only positive things I can say about this hotel.
I originally reserved a room with 2 double beds as were originally going to have our daughter with us. Plans changed and our daughter did not join us, and the clerk was able to change us to a room with a king bed and NEW carpet. However, this same room had a luggage rack/shelf that was broken out of the plaster/wall on the left side and one of the lamps was missing a switch cover, so was unable to turn on the lamp at all! The bathroom was NOT equipped with a hairdryer, nor did the room have a collapsable luggage rack. I had to sign a waiver that stated that there would be no smoking done in the room, which was not a problem as my husband, nor I have ever smoked in our lives. It had a patio door that opened up into the courtyard, however, my husband discovered approximately 42 cigarette butts on the ground outside of our patio door. YUCK! I unplugged the lamp, moved it to the floor next to the dresser with a note, thinking it would be fixed or replaced upon our return to the room, but neither was done. It was a nice surprise that there were microwaves/mini-fridges in all of the rooms, but would have been nice to have had instructions on how to use the fridges (I think it stayed on as long as you kept the entry way light on). They also had this neat device that I had not seen in a hotel room before, which was a retractable clothesline that hangs parallel with the shower curtain. I used it for both of my towels, as I was going to reuse them the next day. When, I returned to our room, I found that both of my towels were gone. So much, for going green! Also, we had 3 towels, but only 2 towels were replaced.
On the first night of our stay, we left our dog in his kennel in our truck, but decided to let him join us on the second night of our stay. This is a pet-friendly hotel, however, our king room was not a pet-friendly room, so had to change rooms. We thought we would be moved to an equivalent room, but was moved to a room with 2 double beds. This bathroom did have a hairdryer in it, but there was still what looked like coffee cup rings left on the bathroom sink counter, making you wonder if it was sanitized at all..."Pet-friendly" rooms must also be near "smoke-friendly" rooms, as I practically choked on second-hand smoke around 1:30 a.m. from an adjacent room. It appeared that there must have been baseball & softball tournaments going on as we had seen some teams checking in. Well, these same kids were also apparently unsupervised as they were spent most of the night running up & down the hallways and being very loud:( It finally got quiet at 2:48 a.m. Apparently, there must not be enough staff to enforce quiet time...
The pool looked lovely, when not over-crowded with children. 1-2 p.m. would be the ideal time to use the pool or whirlpool.
It appeared as if there was an adjacent restaurant, but there was no information provided in our rooms, check-in or in the hotel directory. I think the restaurant changed owners and switched to a Thai restaurant, but as there was not any information, we are unsure.
