Valu Inn, Bay City

The low rate is definitely a plus, but what we didn't expect were the 'friends' we had waiting for us in TWO rooms. Our first room (room 109) had bed bugs between the box spring and mattress. We talked to the desk clerk (who was at least polite) and we were quickly sent to a second room. I also asked if they had any reports of bed bugs. The clerk said "no". On to our second room. Unfortunately, after examining the box spring our second room also had bed bugs! More so than the first! We couldn't beleive it. Anyways, we promptly went back to talk to the clerk, who looked surprised but was apologetic. I asked again if they had any bed bug reports and this time the clerk said "yes, a few months back but we took care of it". OK - so now the truth comes out but obviously the problem was not taken care of. Regardless, the third room looked OK but just because we didn't actually see them doesn't mean they weren't there. Last, the hot tub building is closed off and caving in. Same with the pool area. If you have kids keep them away from these areas as they are NOT safe. In fact, the plastic windows in the hot tub area are actually blowing out of their frames onto the grass area in front of the rooms as a result of the collapsing structure. Bottom line: stay away! Even FREE isn't worth the trouble of bringing bed bugs home!

Was attending convention at the Doubletree Hotel, stayed at the Valu Inn, excellent price, is a budget motel but the room was clean and HS speed internett was excellent, with continental breakfast.

What did I dislike? The filth, bugs, ripped drapes and blankets, the smells of smoke, urine and filth, stains on the walls, floors, carpets, and tub. Should have left and not spent the night...I slept in my clothes in a sleeping bag as I didn't want to touch anything there!

There must be new owners because some of the old reviews are good. But there is no way I would ever step foot in that place again. First of all, the foreign speaking guy who I can only guess is the owner/manager is a crook. He does not care about any of your complaints and will not fix anything in your room. I could not get a working coffee pot even though I requested it many times. Our towels were dirty and smelled of oil. There was Dog hair every where and the rooms and hallways smelled like dog urine. I had little bites on my shoulder from when I woke up from what I can only guess were flea bites. I was also over charged. The shower curtain was torn and did not cover properly. The sliding door was broken and would not open. The pool was closed (this was in July). Avoid this place, it needs to be shut down, the people that run it are crooks and are lazy. I have never given such a harsh review before and I usually refuse to believe harsh reviews, but this time, what the others are saying is true.

I needed a hotel room on very short notice. I realized that every hotel room in Bay City was booked due to the Tall Ships Celebration in town. Against my better judgment, I booked this hotel room. I knew not to expect much due to this place’s reputation and I know you get what you pay for. I figured it was only for a night and all I needed the room for was to shower and about 6 hours of sleep, so what is the worse that could happen. On top of everything being dirty, the owner over charged my credit card. I checked out early and thought everything was OK, then noticed the extra charges 2 days later. I have called several times to speak with him and he never called me back. I finally got a hold of him and faxed him the info showing the extra charges. He said he would fix it. 2 WEEK LATER HE STILL REFUSES TO FIX IT! I’ve called back and he answers the phone and lies and says that he is not there; he even hung up on me. I can not believe this could happen with a national chain hotel. I’ve contacted the national office and they promised me a resolution. I have contacted the BBB! Please do not fall victim to this place.---JM

From the time we checked in, the front desk manager, Scott, was so helpful. He printed us directions to the church and the shopping. Beds were just right and had a good nights rest.

There was nothing to like about this place. It was dirty, they hadn't even cleaned the dirty towels out of the room or taken the garbage out. The sheets had blood stains on them and there was no hot water. Please for your own sake, do not stay here

This place is a dump! The bedspread & blanket were stained, the electrical outlets in the room were all loose & unsafe. The sliding glass door didn't lock. The pool, game room, & fitness rooms are a JOKE. They overcharged me at checkout then refused to refund me the overcharge. NEVER AGAIN!

I have been booking blocks of rooms for a hockey team for years and this is the first time I have had a problem. This place was awful!! Old and dirty! The rate of $53 a night was $52 too much!!! The rooms smelled, the sliding glass doors didn't lock on the main floor to the outside, there was cigarette butts on the floor in one room and between the sheets in another. And they were booked as no-smoking rooms! When one room was refused to cleanliness, it was given to a different guest hours later without being cleaned!!! The hot tub was not working, the game room consisted of one machine not plugged in and there was no fitness area that we could see. If there had been ANY place else to stay within 10 miles of this area, we would never have stayed. RUN - DON'T STAY HERE!! Choice Hotels should be embarassed to have this listed as one of their motels! Nasty!
